Hi guys,

Looking for a camera that's pocketsize and reasonable quality. Has to take reasonable quality pictures and ideally lightweight. Ability to remove redeye and battery life would be key.

Any suggestions? An SDLR is outside my budget and not good to carry around for my purposes.

Thanks.

For that sort of budget they are all a much of a muchness. I would personally go for a Canon or Panasonic myself (i've had both); whatever is within that budget. Perhaps look at an older model Canon IXUS as you will get more for your money. Models change repeatedly on point and clicks and there are so many compared to DSLRs so to be honest, unless you are spending 2-300 on one I would just go with a mainstream model. You can get more picky if you had a bigger budget if you get what I mean.

Something you can always do; is work out a handful that you will shortlist and using Flickr you can search for photos by camera model. So this will give you an idea of picture quality. The rest of it is all gimmicks; and red eye reduction is pretty much commonplace on cameras now. :)

i picked up a panasonic lumix fx37 for my girlfriend before we went on holiday. it cost a snip over £100, but that was back in June.

having the wider angle lens is big plus point, but it does vignette slightly. everytime she picks up my trusty fuji f31fd she thinks it's broken though - because it won't zoom out any further!

I have seen the Panasonic Lumix FS15 going for £94, which I'm thinking of going for. I don't know much about digital cameras, but have heard this is a pretty good choice for mid-range compact cameras.

Sony W series cameras are great. The W110 can be had for around 60 quid refurbished on the bay.
