Hey folks,

The OH and I are heading out to Asia for a few weeks this spring and I need something to take some snaps with beyond than the average phone pics and the GoPro. Looking to spend no more really than about £300 or so which after a quick Google should bag be a half decent one.

The one that catches my eye is the Nikon D3100 as it seems to be a little more user friendly and seeing as this is our first step away from generic point and shoot type photography, simplicity is important...

Can I ask you kind people for some help? I promise I won't flood the forums with DoF shots :D

Argos link this seems to be a good price with an 18-55mm and 55-200mm lens @ £270 or the D3200 with just the 18-55mm lens @ £280

Thanks for your input. In online reviews it seems to be fairly even with the Canon feeling like it's made much better though which kind of worries me... Do you have any thoughts on the build quality of the Nikon?

I won't realy be recording on it as I have the GoPro for that.

Brilliant, there's a 3200 on the bay at the minute with the 18-55mm lens and a bag at £200 ending in a few hours... Will have a bid and see what happens.

How useful is the on screen guide I've read about? A bit gimmicky or is it likely to actually help us take decent photos?

Yeah looking forward to it... A friend was recommending the Cannon 1100/1200 but then shes biased. I hope I've made the right decision!
I paid £246.50, I'm not sure if the lens is VR1 or 2 though...

Are there any must have items I need? Probably a spare battery, how long should one last?
