Well, looks like that bmw sale has fell through and im car searching at the moment...

My range is sub2k hopefully with 1500 preferred

Im looking at smallish cars, because it will only ever be me in the car really, and as a student im gonna need to make the savings everwhere else.

Saw a corolla on AT, 1.3 6 speed box? recommend it?

Thanks for all help given!

(ps no mondeo's, sorry but i really don't like them)

But you'd drive a 1.3 Corolla? Yea, I'm feelin' that.

Fiesta or something I guess. Micras are great cars - no cred at all but then, neither does a Corolla.

So you'd drive that but not a Mondeo? What redeeming features does it have to make that worthwhile, looks like the sort of thing that can force people to the bus :p

Lots of cars to choose from.

Id reckon a 1.6 Xsara would be a great choice, and should be available for that money.

You might want to consider other cars such as:

Xantia
Galant
Primera
306
406
Mazda 323
Clio

etc etc

But id go for a xsara....

The corrolla is actually not bad...

The 1.3 is quite powerful for its size, and its a nice enough reliable machine for the money,

In all fairness i dont like either but the mondeo is a rather large car, anyway, anyone got any serious recomendations, another thing is...

i dont want to look too boy racery, so that cuts out the saxos and fiestas :(.

Correct me if you think im thinking along the path of a madman ;)

With all due respect, you are 17 buying your first car, think long and hard about whether a car auction is the right place for you becuase I'd be suprised if it was.

Well, it may not be the perfect route, but it can be a good place to make some savings, im not exactly going unprepared im going along with a mechanic whos had a lot of experience with auctions, reading the sticky on the forum about auctions i understand theres a lot of pressure there.. but i can assure you, i wont be doing the bidding.

We will just work out a max price when i see the car and stick to it. Worst case scenario = nothing lost, nothing gained.

No, worst case scenario you impulse buy a mechanically sound yet rubbish car.

This is how people end up driving Corsas.

I seriously dont understand peoples dislike for Corsa's...

You could do a lot worse, Fiesta 1.8D :p

I borrowed a Corsa C this week. I took it out and intended to do a review for OcUK.

It was almost entirely without merit, so bad that I couldn't even be bothered. It was seriously the worst car I have EVER driven and yes, that includes the Fiesta 1.8D. I feel genuinelly sorry for anyone who spent their own money on one.

With cars like that about, its no wonder many people considered driving a tedious chore. For the first time ever, I gained no pleasure from being behind the wheel of a car.

So whats worse, the Fiesta 1.8D or Corsa? :D

I've had 2 Corsa C's, The first was bad but the SXi+ is marginally better.

hah, yes fox i suppose you are right, but no way i'll end up with a corsa :D

Ty for your advice mate, i appreciate the fact that you are trying to dissuade me from buggering up, but we all gotta take chances somewhere haven't we?

Besides anything has to be better than the car i have at the moment, a 1.5glx kia mentor, with 150k on the clock (and numerous problems)
