I've got a friend who is currently driving an Audi 80 2.8 manual. The MOT is due shortly and he thinks it's going to cost quite a lot to get through, so it looking for another car.

It does quite high milage and he lives in Devon so wants something with a bit of torque if possible, but also something that's going to be as cheap as possible to run. Comfort is important too as the car is used for reasonable distance. Reliablilty is important too, as much as you can get on a car for £800 anway.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Can you give some advice on selecting a model and anything to watch out for or avoid?

Ta

I do believe Fox's might be for sale soon. :D

Oh, please stay clear of Lagunas. I think they're OK until they start going wrong.

I bought a Mondeo estate for less than £1k 3 months back.

It is immaculate inside and mechanically sound.
The paint work isn't too bad, stone chipped bonnet and some rust around the petrol cap and on a rear wheel arch (all the same side).

The inside is really like brand new though.

Oh it's a 2.0 Ghia. That means I got the following:

Aircon (Works very well too!)
Velor Trim
Electric windows all round.
Electric drivers seat.
Electric wing mirrors
Heated wing Mirrors, front and rear windscreen and washer jets.
It has an aftermarket alarm with remote central locking (however this is standard anyway).
Map reading lights
Lights in the footwells
Lights in the sun visors
(There are a lot of lights! Even in the door handles!)
Fake Wood!
Front & Rear Fog Lights

I am considering selling it as I just picked up a small van so the estate isn't needed really.

It has almost 120k, loads of MOT and a few months tax. Recent tyre, brake and cambelt change. It's a 1998 R Reg.

I think you will agree that this is a true bargain car at the moment.
