Haven’t driven for 15 years as i had a crash and the car was beyond economic repair and i couldn’t afford a new one as i was at university so i just got used to not having one. Recently got some inheritance money so i’m looking to start driving again.

I work from home so it will mainly be used for driving around town on weekends. Occasional motorway usage.

Having had a a quick search it seems something like a toyota aygo/ hyuandai i10/ peugot 108 would suit me as i don’t think you pay tax and are low insurance costs. The crash was my fault but as its so long ago that won’t affect premiums right?

Edit: needs to be ulez compliant as its starting where i live at the end of the month

similar situation to you not drove since 2006 and been mostly riding motorbikes year round since.
Managed to pick up a discounted (family discount) Peugeot 208 Allure.
£20 a year to Tax, 2015 reg. Had it’s wet belt done and oil strainer cleaned.
Im 37 and no no claims costs me £650 a year to insure living in East Lancs (Rishton)
Lovely to drive, comfortable and reasonably nippy. Managed 52.2 mpg driving from Rishton to Chester on the motorway.

Do you need it to fit more than just you in (family etc)? Do you actually enjoy driving or just looking for something to get from A to B? Do you absolutely need to have CarPlay etc built in or would you be happy to add this ant a later date? Important to think about what the car is used for as 8k could get you something decent.

The Aygo and 108 are pretty depressing little boxes but I guess you don’t pay VED. I have grown quite fond of our Fiat 500 which is also £0 VED (2012 twinair).

Bit of both really. I’ve only ever driven a nissan micra (instructors car) and a ford ka which my sister gave me when i passed my test and it was relatively nice to drive.

Why is an aygo depressing? I mean i suppose it is if you have from driving a bmw/mercedes or something similar.

Sorry, I didn’t mean depressing in that you have to have a German make or the car is no good. It’s just that the Aygo represents the absolute bare bones of motoring and that unless you want pretty much the newest car for your money you might be able to get something more spacious/comfortable/sporty etc etc
