Spec me a card £250

ok which out of the 280x or gtx 770?
On the GPU front, in general the 280x will be a little ahead of the GTX770 when bother are overclocked.

SOME people will tell you 2GB would be perfectly fine for 1920 res or below, but for the same money, I don't see any point of chancing it when the 280x offer 1GB extra vram for the same money. Personally I wouldn't get a 2GB card anymore in this time and age. If I was a die-harder Nvidia supporter and wouldn't considering the AMD alternative, I would STILL not buy the GTX770 new, but would rather try to find a 2nd hand GTX780 with 3GB vram for under £300 instead.

...and that reminded me...may be it's worth you considering trying to find a decent custom cooled 2nd hand GTX780 or 290 for may be around £300 or less?

I am running a resolution of 2560x1440 on my 480gtx so would be looking to run the same res on the new card.

I am not pro Nvidia or an ATI hater. I will use what ever is the best hardware for the money. Wouldn't want 2nd hand, only new.

For 2560 res, between the GTX770 and the 280x, if both were same price the 280x would be no-brainer, with the higher memory-bus and more vram.
