My current card is the Asus HD5970. It's coming to the end of its life now and it's time to upgrade soon.

I did post awhile ago and people said my rig isn't too bad still and was just mostly my card letting me down as it is breaking.

I'm not too fussy with either AMD or Nvidia although not so impressed with AMD drivers with my current duel GPU card and swinging more towards Nvidia because of that reason. Although AMD have some nice cards going.

I just don't want to go for another £500 card like the GTX780 and then suffer problems like I have since day one with the 5970. As long as it will run my games with a good FPS and not be bottlenecked by the rig (which I'm not really wanting to go all out and change right now, unless it is upgrades on the Ram or maybe a SSD).

Games I will be playing is ArmA 3, ArmA 2, Rome II ect. Obviously just something that will perform well in some of the upcoming releases.

What card would people be recommending I go for with the rig I got?

Thanks.

Asus Rampage Extreme II
Intel i7 920
Corsair 6GB Ram DDR3
Corsair 1000w Modular PSU
Samsung SpinPoint F1 320GB
Samsung SpinPoint F3 1TB SATA-II
Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit
22" Monitor @ 1080p

True but I was thinking ssd just for OS,and current hdds for your games/films/music ect the odd most frequently played game on the ssd,

Yeah I guess so but wouldn't really make any difference for gaming.

As for the card I'm not sure on the brand of that card. Would have to check out some reviews for MSI. I was going to get a Gigabyte 7950 before, seemed a really nice card but then all the hype over the upcoming release of the 780 I decided to wait. But prices haven't really budge as much as I thought they would for the 670 and 7950.

have you thought about getting one of those OCZ 3.5" SSDs? 480gb for 140 quid, ideal for games.
As for graphics card, MSI 670 PE is 200 till 9am tomorrow, or 180 for a 7950.

Both are good cards with top coolers,I own two msi 7850's and they are fantastic, its up to you what you want but a 7950 would be plenty power imo, that paired with an ssd would give your setup a huge boost

You'd only see SATA 2 speeds so around 260mb read/write slightly more on Marvell SATA 3 speed ports but not the rated 500mb read, for that you would need newer Intel SATA 3 speed ports found on sandy/ibt/haswell

Those cards overclock way more than your current card and run cooler, both msi/gigabyte have 3 year warranty

Edit.trouble with ocz ssd's is reliability

I currently use 280GB that is both OS + Apps, Games, Music ect. Have about 15 or so games installed which will no doubt be uninstalled when I start moving on. So I guess I wouldn't need so much space after all.

I could easily limit my usage quite easily. I have a 1TB portable drive that I just chuck a lot of stuff on that I use for storage so it keeps it off my main drives.

As for the cards again, I guess its looking good for a 7950. It does seem all round a nice card. But still I'm open for more suggestions.

I just want a card that is going to let me keep up with some of the latest games for the next few years. So I don't want to buy a card too *cheap* and then suffer in the next year. Once my rig gets too old then I will no doubt fully upgrade but I hope that isn't any time soon.

Keep xfire/sli in mind, pretty sure x58 allows 16x16x pci-e which is a good thing,so if gaming starts to struggle you can always add in another card

Just bought myself the MSI 7950 for my rig below to keep me going until (and probably during) BF4.

First BF3 games last night, constant 60 FPS (min 55) without changing/tweaking any settings (yet!).
