Spec me a CCTV System

The 4-port Lite unit that @Matrix linked to is semi-passive so it does have one fan but it's generally pretty quiet. The big issue with these devices mainly in my experience is the hard drives chattering away.

Would you recommend any other NVR that are quiet then please ?
Or the best drives to put in that are more silent ?

Thanks

I’ll see if I can find one and power it up and record it. They’re not noisy. Seagate Skyhawk are the better surveillance drives in my estimation. The WD Purples are also good. What makes surveillance drives different is they’re optimized for writing rather than reading data. That’s about it really.

I use a synology NAS as my NVR. The fans are quiet on that but like others have mentioned, I can hear noise from the hard drives so I have mine in a cupboard with the door shut. The temps don't seem to go above 22c in the cupboard. HDD's in the synology NAS report to be 39-40c when under load.

Not sure whats going on with that broadbandbuyer place

signed up and then still can't see prices and had an email saying "Thank you for your application for a trade account. Whilst your current spend per month doesn't yet make your company eligible for trade pricing online, we have allocated an account manager to you who will have the ability to offer discounted pricing.

To access the best pricing available, simply contact your account manager, quoting your customer account reference shown below."

what's that all about ?

I can see some prices but none for the CCTV is seem ?

Thanks

Reminds me of this for some reason!

Same thing happened to me when I first made an account. It seems you have to search for the product code of the item after being logged in to show the prices. Bit weird.

I’ll give my Dahua technical representative a nudge and ask him to ask someone in a China to ask someone in Taiwan to add the relevant drivers.

Hey WJA96. Were you able to give your contact a nudge about adding support for the TiOC camera on surveillance station?

For some reason my TiOC is the camera that doesn't let me select the 'event detection source' as the camera (surveillance station is the only option available). I've set my camera's to only record when motion is detected and I get a lot of false recordings from the TiOC as it's not able to utilize its smart motion detection feature :(

Are you using SMD(+) or IVS? SMD(+) will always give you false alerts because it's only looking for pixels moving. It's very good compared to most others and you need to use AI/IVS if you want the real people/vehicle detection. Dahua drive me crazy because they keep pushing SMD(+) when it's really AI/IVS or AI/Perimeter they should be pushing.

What settings are you using for the unsupported camera? ONVIF or did you select another Dahua? If you're not using ONVIF, try that as it should pass all features of the camera to the recorder.

I am using IVS - you gave me some good step by step instructions a few months back to set it up originally (Although I did not have my synology at the time). I had the TiOC set to 'generic dahua camera' in the surveillance station software but I changed it to ONVIF last night to see if that would give me any other options. I still had the false alerts this morning though. I'll post a screen shot of it when I get home later in case there is anything obviously incorrect.

But if you’re not using the camera as an alert source then you’re working off the motion detection in the Synology NAS? I’ll send them another e-mail and see how far they’ve got.

For some reason surveillance station does not have the option to use the TiOC camera as the detection source. The other 3 camera's I have (only one officially supported on surveillance station) all have the option available to use the 'cameras settings' for detection.

Thanks for chasing it up again. I have contacted them twice without any luck.

I don't believe it.... I now have the option to select detection method 'by camera' in the surveillance software @WJA96. Weird. Will see how this goes now.

You might be waiting some time. There’s apparently some sort of issue with Dahua, Hikvision, Huawei etc. where anyone ‘helping’ them is liable to end up on the same US Government blacklist as Dahua, Hikvision and Huawei find themselves on now. So ONVIF aren’t certifying the cameras and you
are unlikely to get any dedicated camera file updates from QNAP or Synology. Which is a bit of a pain really. My reseller has introduced an Israeli company called Provision for contingencies where you can’t have a Chinese made camera or recorder. The cameras whole menu structure and the operation of the NVRs and the features all look suspiciously familiar to anyone who’s seen Dahua cameras so I’ll see if there is an equivalent Provision camera to the Dahua TiOC then see how that works with Surveillance Station.

Bit off topic but did anyone else find their outdoor cameras were blinded by the snow - Three of my Hik's were effected - all paths and buildings - shed - greenhouse -fence -path slabs were black but you could make them out - These were looking at large patches of snow. They were OK at night.
Now the snow has gone the cameras are back to normal.

You need to activate WDR (if you have that function) so the image compensates for the very light areas. It’s really intended for use with windows and patio doors that have bright light streaming in which would otherwise blind the camera, but it works just as well for snow.

Thanks for the info! That is a pain but can't be help.

WJA another questions sorry ,

With regards to the NVR4104-P-4KS2-L-xT I assume that one has IVS etc same features as the DHI-NVR4104HS-P-4KS2 Lite 1-Bay , Also how many days recording does a 2TB hold if you was to record off 2 cameras as we're thinking of getting rid on that other one now and using 2 TiOC ones. Or would it be best to put 4Tb in ?

And sorry one more question the 5MP TiOC turrets is that the 3.6 Lens one as that's better than 2.8 correct ?

Thanks

Ps i did send you a message in trust but not sure if it went through or not .

No, I'm getting nothing from OcUK at the moment. I upgraded my systems to 'secure' https so that pictures would show up in all browsers and it's been nothing but hassle since.

The IVS is driven from the cameras. 2Tb on two cameras would be about 18-25 days H265+ recording time at full resolution and using variable bit rate to optimise the streams from the cameras. If you don't want sound (you definitely do) then you could probably eek out another 2-3 days. 1Tb per camera is plenty unless you go on unusually long holidays.

The camera lens determines field of view. If you want to see something wider but further away looking, you use the 2.8mm lens. To see less, but that appears to be closer, you would use the 3.6mm or even a 6mm lens. So for your low-level 'face camera' you want the 2.8mm lens to see the whole of the front of your house, but the high level camera you can see so much more so you would use the 3.6mm lens to crop out the houses next door and across the street and see your property better. Generally there is no price difference between 2.8mm, 3.6mm and 6mm lens on the cameras. The bullet TiOC cameras are more expensive than the turrets because they have better (longer range) LED illuminators. So from your pictures, you want a turret low down and bullet high up.

So far so good, no more false alerts on the TiOC when my boiler fires up and creates a plume of moisture in the image!
