Spec me a CCTV System

Yes, no cameras setup so can't see it being a license issue.

Reset the camera and still no joy.

The camera is receiving power, the LEDs are lit up at night. But the network indicator lights flash for a few seconds after I plug the cable into the NVR and then stop.

Could it be a cabling issue? The old camera (POE, 2 mpx) worked with the same cable.

Thanks

Yes, until you spend hundreds, they’re all the same.

So just to be clear, the camera was plugged into the new NVR and it worked. You then attached the new NVR to the old cameras and they worked with the new NVR. You then unplugged one of the cameras and plugged in the new one and it looks like it powers up but it doesn’t give a picture? And you don’t have more than 8 or 16 or whatever the maximum number of cameras the NVR supports connected and/or activated on the NVR?

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

To answer your questions;

"So just to be clear, the camera was plugged into the new NVR and it worked." - Correct

"You then attached the new NVR to the old cameras and they worked with the new NVR. " - Did not test the old cameras with the new NVR. They are old non Hikvision cameras so would not expect them to work with the new NVR.

"You then unplugged one of the cameras and plugged in the new one and it looks like it powers up but it doesn’t give a picture?" Yes

"And you don’t have more than 8 or 16 or whatever the maximum number of cameras the NVR supports connected and/or activated on the NVR?" This is the first camera I'm testing with the NVR.

"You didn’t give the camera a fixed IP address by any chance?" No, or at least not deliberately. The old NVR could have I suppose, as the camera lighted up the plugged in to it.

Hi,
I was looking to order a Dahua DHI-NVR4108HS-8P-4KS2 from BBB but they are currently out of stock and from looking on Dahuas website they are end of life so possibly wont be back until a new replacement model comes out. The other 8 port dahua NVR available is the DHI-NVR5208-8P-4KS2E Pro but it is £100+ more than the 4108, do you think the additional features (mainly looks like AI/ANPR stuff to me) is worth the additional cost for a home property which would be running 4 or 5 Dahua 5mp TioC cameras to start with? If not is there another NVR you would suggest or is it worth waiting for a new model?

thanks

I replied to your e-mail (hotmail account) with details and screenshots showing the actual cost prices.

I thought this might be an interesting piece to add to the discussion:

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/money/b...reveal-affluence-cues-attracting-thieves.html

"He added CCTV cameras can also signal money: 'As a solution, CCTV cameras that will match the colour of house walls, fascia or guttering making it harder to spot the cameras as easily are available. Modern cameras are also becoming smaller and less obtrusive and therefore harder to see on any criminal reconnaissance.' "

We've discussed this further up the thread where we photograph the property without the camera or external access point installed then we get wrap printed and wrap the camera or access point to match. It's pretty good. I put up a couple of pictures on Facebook but everyone claimed they couldn't see the cameras and that I was faking it.

Please note that where we do this it doubles the cost of the install.

Obviously, if you're using TiOCs they light up like a Christmas tree at night.

I would refer you to the Daily Mail piece in post 3277 where it says it’s pointless having a cheap security system that doesn’t actually do anything.

What is attracting you to that system? It’s basically a Starlight or DarkFighter type camera where if you have good street lighting you will get colour night vision but if you don’t it has 30m infra-red.

Obviously you’re getting it from Amazon so you can at least give it a try and send it back if it’s no good. It will probably exceed your expectations for the money. A 2Tb HDD will record 10-14 days at 5MP so if that’s enough it looks pretty cheap.

Thanks for your feed back. I read some review that these are rebranded Hikvision, so that they may be good

They could be anything. They’re not rebranded Hikvision or Dahua though because Annke are not on the US Government restricted list. They’re probably SysVision from the look of the NVR and the menu structure of the NVR software.
