Spec me a CCTV System

Anyone have a screenshot for frigate showing cameras over the internet? Either through browser of Home assistant?

Need to know whether I can make it wife-friendly before taking the plunge and spending money.

In Home Assistant

Frigate

In the HA screenshot you can see an icon on the top left corner of each camera. Clicking that gives access to recordings

Hi I have a hikvision nvr with a color vue and two dark fighter cameras and I fitted an old wd green out of an old whs system, if I had to renew the drive what’s recommended and how big to go for ?
Thanks

Hi lads,

Crossposting and linking to my thread in the Networking forum (here: https://forums.overclockers.co.uk/t...school-cctv-wifi-more.19002308/#post-37814194), lots of recommendations to go with a UniFi system.

Wondering if anyone has experience or recommendations with specific cameras from their lineup you'd recommend? Will need at least 4 or 5 cameras I reckon, with room to expand in future.

Judging by your cross post you're aiming for wifi cameras ?
PoE cameras if you can all day long for me

If your whole network and services are on a UPS that's a bonus too

No since we're starting from scratch and will be doing full rewires/renovation/refurbishment work anyway and the site is empty, will definitely be running RJ45 cables everywhere so PoE is the plan. Just don't know what to plug in specifically!

Reolinks then
I've got a mixture of them and must say that the trackmix actually worked better than expected
I also like the duo3

Both work great with home assistant and frigate

Great, how do they compare to the UniFi cameras which everyone in the other thread seems to be recommending?

Dunno

Unifi is too expensive for what it is. Only buy Unifi at the companies expense
Would never let it anywhere near my home network

I guess the boys in your thread know what they're talking about so go for it

I agree that it's pricey, I'm far from an expert hence looking for recommendations. I suppose their main point is that if starting from scratch where you need wifi + switches + cameras + maybe more in future, it makes to do it all in one system? But I have no idea, the youtube vids and reviews seem like sales articles.

Yeah, another thing to bear in mind is power consumption as I'm sure you'll want to keep this running 24/7
Unifi being 'prosumer' does drink a lot of petrol

Unifi cameras don't seem to be great value for money. They score major plus points if you already have a Unifi network as they just plug and play but you pay a lot for that. I bought a G5 bullet to try out and it's no better than the £35 Chinese job it replaced. At this price point, any future purchases will be Reolink cameras of which I already have two.

Can I plug Reolink cameras into a UniFi switch and have it all work seamlessly in the same way? Also maybe I'm looking at the wrong thing but Reolink PoE cameras don't seem that much cheaper than 1 gen old Unifi cameras e.g. G5. Both are around the £70-80 per unit no?

You can add the Reolink cameras to the Unifi Protect app and record to a Unifi NVR or router based hard drive via ONVIF but there's no motion detection markers applied to the recordings ie it's pointless!

Amazon has a Reolink 4K PoE bullet camera for £62. The G5 Bullet is a 2K camera for £126 on the Ubiquiti website. That's quite a difference in terms of both price and image quality.

Oh yes you're right. I was looking at the G5 Turret Ultra for £79 but I fell into the not noticing the ex-VAT trap, so it's actually £94.80. A 4K PoE Turret from Reolink is around £55ish on Amazon so nearly half price.

I'm just very keen to get this right first time as an easy low-headache solution with the wifi + cameras + storage that will just work 24/7 with no issues. If it was for my home I'd be happy to take a punt and worst case can always change things around, swap devices, upgrade etc. But since this is charity money it's really important not to waste a penny.

Just be careful with the 4k turret reolink, the FoV is very narrow at something like 75 degrees. Much lower than the G5. Reolink as an ecosystem is great however, I've recently installed some of the £55 cameras you talk about for specific areas, along with dome camera (140 degrees fov) where needed, and rounded it out with their doorbell to replace a Ring. Seems solid so far.

I'm looking to replace Amazon cameras something without a subscription

My needs
  • Local storage -no subscriptions - SD card fine, I have a NAS but dont want to spin it up if SD is available
  • Talk to Google TV - Use Google TV/Android in house so would like notifications or video appearing on those
  • No talking to China - I want my own service not dependent on another company or country ideally
  • No PC or Hub needed - Why add cost?
  • Phone App - Remote viewing, Notifications, 2 way comms with visitors
  • Powered - No batteries or Solar and I have power connections for existing cameras anyway
  • Floodlight optional - not needed if the nightvision is good.
  • Simple set up - of course
Any suggestions?

Have a look at Eufy. Don’t know about the Google TV connections but it has everything else you need.
