Spec me a CCTV System

I install Unifi bits for a living (mainly network) and have their switches and WiFi at home but the annoying thing about the cameras is the requirement to use their NVR. I already have storage that is suitable so having to buy the Unifi NVR made it a dealbreaker for me.

If you want to stay within the Unifi system then you’re screwed that way. Ubiquiti really are the Apple of the networking world - expensive but everything (usually) just works. Don’t leave the walled garden though!

However, the cameras are Frigate compatible so that’s another option.

The thing is the networking and WiFi stuff is actually really good value, the controller is free and will run on pretty much anything and you can even run without it for long periods.

All I would have needed was a tick box option to push the video data to an existing datastore or NAS and I'd have kept with Unifi for cameras but it's not possible.

Looking for some Camera help.

End terrace house, driveway and garden on the end of the house. Driveway and garden gate not visible from anywhere in the house.
Only the vertical wall of the house to put the camera. I can wire POE if that's the best option.
Looks like a 180 degree camera could achieve this, as a wide but shallow field of vision would suit. This would then cover the driveway, entrance gate to the garden, and patio doors, without having 2 cameras.
I currently have a Reolink Wired Doorbell, which records to my Synology nas via Wifi. Would be handy to stay in the Reolink eco system, but not if the cameras are rubbish.

Been looking at the Reolink Duo 3V PoE, but mounted vertically, rather than ceiling/soffit mounted.
Also looked at the Reolink Duo 2 PoE, but as its on an arm, I would need to point it pretty much at the floor to do what I want.

Any thoughts or advice would be appreciated.

Fit 2 separate cameras imo rather than the 180 degree ones.

I aklso switched from Ring to UniFI, no regrets at all and I've probably saved enough to buy two G4 Doorbells. I already ran their networking kit at home so it made sense to me.

Any tips for fixing to plastic soffits?

Got a Ubiquiti G6 Turret that I’m going to fit on the corner of my first floor soffits. Any advice on fixings?

I’m sure with a long screw I can get the screw closest to the point of the corner into the hip rafter, but the other four probably not. Are standard plugs and screws ok? Or just self tapping screws directly into the soffit?

I could also glue the base on with CT1 or similar but would make removing it a pig. Although that’s not something I plan to do often.

Would appreciate any advice. Cheers.

You are over thinking this, just screw it into the soffit with the supplied screws, there is more than enough material, it’s plastic, it doesn’t need plugs :)

Do not CT1 it to the soffit, you will regret that immediately.
