Spec me a CCTV System

If I needed to look at the 4mp cameras, which I wouldn't bother over the 3mp ones I have unless one of them developed a fault, I would then need a newer NVR. My older NVR is not capable of supporting the newer type apparently.

I suppose you can understand why Hikvision clamped down on the UK sellers and also the Chinese ones exporting them from their Chinese factory for sale in the UK. Certain people were also circumventing Hikvision's locked region firmware (five of my six cameras have been so modified) to allow them to use UK firmware.

Still the price differences are ridiculous.

I bought all my gear from use-ip who are based in Dover, not the cheapest when compared with EBay or overseas sellers but they will price match with UK suppliers.
Unfortunately I've had problems with 2 cameras, the first one was faulty and now another one has gone belly up since a storm.

I'm surprised at this considering their supposed quality but the support I've had from use-ip has been excellent both in dealing with the faults and also setup.

That is something I have been lucky with so far. I have bought seven IP cameras and a NVR from China and thankfully not needed to return / refund with any issues. If that had happen I'm not sure how well it would have worked out.
Prior to that all my analogue stuff used to come from China as well, sometimes via eBay. Apar
t from changing the odd board or lens within a camera, and dealing direct with the Chinese supplier, again I have been fortunate of the kit working.

When you are buying several cameras though the potential for savings can be great and would even take into account one or two failures with no recompense if the worse happened.

Have you exchanged the storm damaged one yet....?

Have to say i'm very impressed with the quality of the Sumvision 4 camera setup my brother has just fitted at his house.

Think it was this one - http://www.world-of-satellite.co.uk...hannel-hybrid-720p-cctv-system-with-4-cameras

I'm thinking about investing however just trying to weigh up pros and cons of going IP cameras over those linked to above as it seems like cracking value for £110. I know the quality is better with IP cams but are they really worth the major price increase?

Is there like a standard IP bullet cam to go for? I only need 2 maybe 3 at a push and I already have a NAS which I could set up and use to record to.

Anyone able to offer any advice?

Anyone able to offer any advice?

The reason that I am struggling to offer advice that is relevant to what you can buy today is that all of my IP cameras and NVR that I bought no longer seem to be on sale from the sellers on Aliexpress where I bought them from. I bought them a few years ago.

For specific models etc times have moved on and the newer NVR's and 4mp cameras have become more popular. Coupled with that seems to have been a big effort by Hikvision in the restrictions imposed on many sellers in no longer selling the Chinese hacked cameras directly to UK buyers.

But even though I write the above I would strongly suggest that you consider something other than a Sumvision system and if you can buy all that is linked in your post for £110 I can't imagine how that would compare to the typical setups noted here when just one camera can cost as much.

I remember coming from an Analogue system, one of the better EXIR type at the time, and being blown away with the quality differences with my Hikvisions.
The night quality isn't up to CSI standards but it is still good enough, with added lighting and IR lighting, for what I need.

The recordings have also been good enough to convict scrotes breaking into our car.

I have not seen any material from the Sumvision setup but if you have and are impressed with the detail recorded, and being able to capture useful recognisable images which would be good enough for the police to use as evidence, then that is something you will need to consider. At the very least it will be a visual deterrent even if the quality turns out to be not that good.!

BNC conectors (cable length of 20m only given for each camera) for the Sumvision etc - meh. I prefer Ethernet.
CMOS 1/4 rather than 1/3 sensor for the cameras.
Not sure of recording capacity of DVR either if all cameras are set to 720p and 20FPS, for example.

I have another question.

Now everything is up and running I tidied everything up.

I have the NVR 7608 in loft - I have it connected to my router (BTHH)on desk with cat 5 Ethernet cord - The camera's are plugged straight into NVR - That's it !

When I run SADP it will only find NVR- no cameras.

So now I have connected a Netgear switch to one of the 8 inputs on NVR and then to BTHH.

Now SADP finds the camera's as well as NVR.

I would have thought SADP would have seen cameras through the NVR - but it seems not. - For me anyway.

It's not a problem but it just means another bit of kit sitting on desk

I have always had my cameras connected to my home network via a switch as well as directly to the NVR so I would not know any different. My switch is near to the NVR in the loft.

So the NVR connects to the Switch and then to my home network via another switch, not directly to a router.

That's right. The NVR will hide the cameras from your network, as it's ports are on a different subnet. You can still access the cameras via the web interface by going to camera management on the NVR and using the direct link it provides (at least on my 7616 you can).

I have four of my cameras located on one side of the house connected directly to the NVR using POE. And then I have a POE switch on the other side of the house powering the other four cameras. Only these latter four can be seen through SADP, as well as the NVR.

Other than the initial setup, I rarely have needed to go into the web management console for an individual camera.

Oh dear Oh dear - I am here again.

After my last post I thought I would go and check to see if my cameras are recording - Turns out number three camera the last one installed has live feed but doesn't seem to be recording - Anyway while poking and hoping through the menu on NVR I have lost camera one - It is working but not showing on screen - In SADP it is shown as Active

Going into camera management in NVR and clicking on status on number one camera it comes up with a box saying "The user is locked" - What the hell have I touched/clicked - How do I unlock it and from where - NVR or SADP.

This is getting me down - I have come to the conclusion I am too stupid to have a CCTV system.:mad:

Any chance you have enabled DDNS on the camera that states you are locked? Log into that camera via your web browser and check under advanced configure/network/DDNS

That is another problem I have never resolved - I can't log in via web browser to any camera - Can only log in to NVR. At moment the missing camera isn't showing. - This is using FireFox

Thanks anyway.

I reckon that the Browning / Gatling you mentioned previously, with landmines and razor wire, might have been an easier solution for you...? ;)

To be honest I would love a Gatling gun but unfortunately I am now stuck with cameras.

I have sorted problem and in end it was a simple fix - Wood from the trees and all that :confused::confused:

I promise I won't go poking again.

Cameras renamed and it's still working.

I have another question - !!

Checked HDD this morning and it's full but nothing was showing on second HDD - So erased old footage on first HDD.

Should the NVR auto switch to second HDD or do I have to tell it - Checked menu and youtube and google but nothing specific came up.

Ta.

I have two hard drives fitted to mine. Under HDD management one will show as sleeping and the other as normal, I have enabled sleeping on the drive that is not being used.

They will always show 0 space after one is used it flips to the other and then back and forth, thus one will never show empty as they do not get formatted in that process.

Both hard drives show under HDD management and so they are enabled for R/W and not read only or redundancy..

Lol. We bought our youngest granddaughter a fairy outfit, now if you want me to..... :D

Easy to miss, there are so many settings in so many different places. It is most mind numbing.

Hi guys,

I'm after a basic set up with 2 wireless cameras which link to a tablet. I will install them near a top room with a plug socket for power.

Anyone use wireless cameras? Can i access them from anywhere?

If anyone can recommend a good set up i would appreciate it.

Ta :)
