Hi,

Currently I am having gamers block, I am not entirely sure exactly what I want to do but I have had a look at what I enjoyed the most over the years. The games that have kept me going are LoL and WoW,

Basically I am looking for more of a character progression; training/armour upgrades that kind of thing. It doesn’t have to be specific genera or difficulty.

I like the idea of other people but that isn’t a must.

I have tried

Rift, SWTOR and other MMO’s
Dota 2 and HoN
I am also trying to avoid WoW (played this too much)

I am guessing you are going to say Skyrim – I missed this on the sale!

I tend to game a lot with my brother which is good but we need to do it via internet also we have nights using LAN

So let your suggesting begin!!!

Well Skyrim is an excellent game that does feature the progression you want so I think this is a great suggestion.

However you could also consider the Mass Effect series. They might still be on offer on Origin and a re well worth playing.

It's funny, but coming from MMO's you can feel a bit lost. I remember when I played WOW and it seemed to me nothing could compare and something just kept drawing me back in. Even to the point where I'd buy other games, but never play them. One day I thought sod this and started playing Mass Effect. From there it was just game after game one at a time.

I have a huge back catalogue to get through and I keep getting those steam deals.

Nowadays I try to alternate my game playing between 50+ hour RPG's and 15 hour action/shooters. I don't play multi player games, other than TF2 at work lunchtimes, and the odd dabble after finishing the single player campaigns. E.g. Mass Effect, Max Payne 3.

Good singleplayer RPG:
Dragon Age Origins (not the 2nd one) - Deluxe version is £4.99 (u just missed it in steam sale)
Neverwinter Nights (not the 2nd one)

Good action RPG (with multiplayer support):
Torchlight 2
Path Of Exile (free)

I bought Skyrim last week, played it over weekend and find it pretty boring, not sure if I will continue playing it.
Modding makes it really pretty, just got bored of it.

+1 Path of Exile (free to boot, so why not give it a pop?)

Not sure if it's been mentioned, but Fallout: New Vegas can usually be found cheap somewhere with all DLC. Add in the fan-made patches and it's a glorious game. Ditto Fallout 3, I just personally prefer NV.

Borderlands 1/2 have a skill tree, millions of weapons to upgrade and a couple of 'armour' type slots. Good if you like silliness and FPS gameplay.

Dishonoured - excellent story, has multiple ways to play and good customisation (spells, weapons, armour, abilities).

I think this is my main problem! I do like Co-op games that can be played via LAN and things like that.

A good game is warframe if you havent tried it.

I may give Path of Exile ago tonight once I finish work - What is dark souls like? Console or PC not really bothered

Hard but rewarding - I think the most common description of the difficulty is "punishing but fair" - It's not hard because of cheaty gimmicks / unavoidable attacks etc, It's just completely unforgiving of errors.

Personally I played the previous one and found it just a tiny bit too frustrating to really get stuck into - every session somewhere around the hour mark I'd do something silly and be too dispirited to try again. If you're either more skillful or more bloody minded than me, there's an excellent game in there for you :D

Titan Quest is a good shout, as is Borderlands.

Are you bothered about age/graphics? If not, you could try NWN - there are thousands of player-created mods & maps around.

Agreed! Not a game to play to relax, and not a game to play when you're tired, because then you'll make a mistake, and then you'll die, then you'll get frustrated... and repeat :p

Borderlands 2 .... its really fun and various things are quiet amusing with pop culture references.
XCOM Enemy Unknown .... strategy with progression where you learn technologies, etc while managing a team amidst an alien invasion.
Payday 2 ... heist co-op with leveling of abilities, this is more like an FPS version of the movie Heat.
The Witcher/The Witcher 2
Baldur's Gate 1 & 2 Enhanced Editions

Do people consider Path of Exile better than Torchlight? I tried it once and just felt like a free to play game very unpolished as opposed to torch light which seems beautiful

I think it's a bit horses for courses, but I found torchlight (2) polished but essentially it got old faster than Path for me. If you're willing to interact with the huge modding community then it's definately got long, long legs, but personally I find the current build of Path of Exile more compelling to play (note, PoE has only just gone "live" as a release, so there's a chance it's changed a fair amount since you tried it).

Actually, if we're doing ARPGs, I still find Titan Quest + Immortal Throne + fan patch pretty hard to beat for sheer fun/addictiveness.
