Hi peeps, need to build a new pc for my bro for as cheap as possible.
Currently got available -
Amd 2000xp skt939
1gb ddr1 400
AGP Radeon 7500
2x IDE HDD
2x IDE CD writers
Got case and mouse and stuff, just need to build a cheap new comp of equivalent or better spec for as little as possible.

If anyone can spec me a pc using these bits to help cover costs i'd be very greatful.

Seems like there is a lot of legacy hardware in that setup.

You could do a really budget upgrade for about £250. E2120/DDR2/3850 ATi

If you *really* want to use some of that, you could use an Asrock board, and keep the RAM & Mobo

Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard

You'll be able to keep your RAM & AGP card until you can find funds to upgrade.

Here is a cheap spec relying on your old hardware, you'll be able to overclock the chip reasonably well also.

Asrock 4CoreDual-SATA2 (Socket 775) PCI-Express/AGP DDR2 Motherboard £36.99
(£43.46)
Intel Core 2 Duo E2180 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail £45.99
(£54.04)
Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket LGA775) £14.99
(£17.61)

Sub Total : £97.97
Shipping cost assumes delivery to UK Mainland with:
City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri)
(This can be changed during checkout) Shipping : £8.25
VAT is being charged at 17.5% VAT : £18.59
Total : £124.81

Don't need to overclock or perform at super levels. He only uses the pc to look on the internet and his mrs uses office and stores pictures on it.
So i'd be ok with the refence cooler that comes with the cpu. (unless its particularly loud?)

Stock cooler should be okay then, the Artic is just a really good cooler, nice and silent too :)

The chip will be okay also, even at stock settings.

Cheapest is to buy a new brd with integrated graphics ( I havn't seen any new AGP boards for some time) and (as the new brds I've seen have only one ide channel )either a new sata hd or sata dvd re-writer.
Total cost about £80
