I'll start this thread by saying that I plan to do this as cheaply as possible whilst striking a balance with adequate performance, ideally by seeking out second hand parts on the MM or elsewhere.
My current setup is an old ex-corporate Dell Optiplex 3060 with:
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-8500 CPU @ 3.00GHz 3.00 GHz
Installed RAM 16.0 GB (15.8 GB usable)
256Gb NVME
I use my PC for two things, photo editing and video editing. Photo editing in Lightroom and PS doesn't really seem to stress it at all, unless I get into batch editing 16-bit TIFFs, when it seems to work quite hard. Video editing is where it could do with more oomph. To be fair, it handles what I need it for okay, but it does become unstable when I push it. I use Adobe Premiere Elements and Handbrake.
Video editing currently involves producing <10 min 1080p videos shot on a Fuji APS-C camera. I currently don't have a need to shoot in 4K but I would like the upgrade to be capable. The current system just locks up if I try to import any 4K video.
I don't and won't use it for gaming.
What sort of spec would I need to be able to handle 4K editing comfortably? It doesn't have to be blazing fast so could I get away with something for less than £500 in used parts? A small footprint akin to the SFF Optiplex would be nice but not absolutely necessary.
Thanks
