Spec me a cheap PC

Hey all.

The grandma wants a new PC. He last one cost her £500 in 2005 (3.0 P4 with 512mb ram, XP, 15 inch LCD from Dell) and I have been asked to get her a new one for about the same price. I will probably be getting a new everything. USB 3.0 would be nice as she will keep the computer for a few years (5-6 at a guess). Onboard graphics will do. Do not need bluray, >4GB ram, SSD. I would like a 24 inch screen though but don't need speakers.
I am fairly up on Intel's i series but the i3 is 2 years old now yet is not dirt cheap. I have no idea about what AMD are like at the moment.
Everything must be new.

Do you think it would be a good idea to get her to hold off for 6 months?
As soon as she got XP it was outdated with Vista and afaik Windows 8 is due out this year.

I wouldn't bother waiting for a O/S.

Just a bit old and slow really. Has a small 15 inch screen, a ball mouse etc. It isn't 'broken' but it just needs replacing.

How about a clean up and grab some more ram, make it up to about 1.5GB.

Clean install and as above a bit more RAM might do the trick for granny's needs for £20!
