I've got a few family members coming over soon so I need something that can carry four people in comfort with space for stuff in the back.

Doesn't have to be ULEZ, don't care about economy, it's unlikely I'll own it for more than a couple of months. Not keen on it leaving us stranded though so something a bit reliable would be advantageous.

Budget around £5k.

Any ideas?

Anyone taking odds on whether more people ask why you don't buy an estate than suggesting an SUV?

(Why don't you get an estate? Passat, Avensis, Exeo that sort of thing)

My mum's getting on a bit so I want something easy for her to get in to, she can't rise out of low cars like she once could!

Mazda CX-5 or Ford Kuga seem reasonably plentiful at that sort of money and will be a nice place to sit (but not a completely flooded market like say the Qashqai which could make it a pain to move on).

Been looking in this space, still can't bring myself to spend £20k on a car though. If I did it would probably be a 2.0 petrol CX5 or Rav4. I like the Lexus NX but the reviews don't seem very favorable and the boot isn't great. These new Tucsons do get very good reviews but not seen one in person yet. As you say, lots of car for the money.
