Hey Guys.

I bought this from OC in 2010 (yeah it's getting long in the tooth).

It still works and I only really play WOW.

What would be a good 'cheap' upgrade on the 6870...got a feeling that won't be difficult.

I'd love to run WOW on Ultra @ 1920 x 1200 @ 60fps but want to keep the card as cheap as possible.

Would love some suggestions.

Keep in mind that getting 60FPS in WoW in raids and BG's with a lot of people isn't easy (sometimes impossible). I have Core i5 3570k at 4.2GHz and I am running at around 50-55 FPS in raids with a 7970.
 
Wow is quite CPU dependant, though yours is pretty reasonable despite it's age, though in cities and other high CPU dependant areas you won't get 60 fps what ever card you have.

For new cards guess you'd be looking at the GTX 960 now from £169.99. This one looks cute. :D

Personally I don't think the GTX 960 is particularly amazing value as it's more of a replacement to the GTX 760/670 cards than an upgrade. With some new features like hdmi 2.0 and Dynamic Super Resolution.

Otherwise a 2nd hand GTX 670 would be a good place to start looking at around £100+/-.

Wow does prefer NVidia cards.
 
I'd be quite happy to bump it down when raiding, all those people and spell effects etc. it's understandable.

£169 is a lot more than I was wanting to spend.

Say I had a budget around £100 - £130?

For that money I don't think you're going to get a significant boost over your current GPU if you buy a new card.

Save your pennies and get a GTX 970 when you can afford it, and it's been fixed.
 
I had a 7970 (280x) and it wouldn't run wow wod on ultra at 1080 smoothly smoothly. I think realistically for your res you want 290/970 its a bit more demanding with the new expansion
