As title really. Decided that I don't need any bells and whistles as I will only be using my computer to listen to music (so needs optical out), do work and watch HD films. I will be getting a 1920x1200 res monitor so as long as it can run hd material then I am happy. Cheaper the better, thanks!

2ghz dual core, 2GB RAM, ATI 2600XT. Windows XP Home, Media Portal and USB IR receiver. Big hard drive. LG Combo HD drive.

Will onboard video be ok?

No like badbob said get a 2600XT or similar video card. It's likely that the onboard graphics on your chosen motherboard might not be able to handle it or might just be good enough (just).

I expect you'll get some more in depth specs when you give a rough guide on how much you're willing to pay for the setup

id go amd. Id do a full system spec but i dont have time at the moment.

Get an amd dual core as they are cheap and for the price cant be beaten as i presume you wont be overclocking. if you were id get a intel 1.8ghz 2180 and overclock it to 3ghz on the stock cooler, it would be runig hot but it would be fast. Of corse leaving speed step on means taht the pc will underclock it so that it will never be running at 3ghz unless needed and therefore wont always be really hot.

For a graphics card the 2600xt would be fine, could be done with less but for the few extra pounds its probably worth it.

Mobo, pritty much any of the amd mobos if you go for amd, ocuk dont do a very good selection though.

You can get onboard with the amd one and it would be powerful enough to do 1080i if you wanted it to.
