Spec me a chipset?

Hello,

Can anyone advise especially if you’ve been through the same thought process which Chipset to go for specifically a SINGLE GPU build which I find doesn’t seem to be catered for anywhere near as much as SLI/Xfire builds. If I can save £20 by going for a lesser chipset then I can put that towards the case for example.

I will be using an FX-8350 and I really don’t want to lose out on performance from any other aspect if I opt for a lesser chipset than the 990FX.

What I can gather at the moment is that it’s just the GPU support that’s different but I’ve seen a few hints that suggest sound and Hyper Transport differences too, can anyone shed some light please?

Ok so I've decided on the 990X but can anyone help with the revisions, I need it to support Vishera which is Revision 3.0 but how do I know the board will be the correct revision when ordered?
 
Gigabyte 970a UD3P is a new one which started at Rev 4.0. Has 8+2 power delivery AND supports Load Line Calibration, so should be decent for overclocking. Fine for single GPU, doesn't support SLI.

Not sure if OCUK stock them yet, though.
 
Apologies, that's me getting confused. there is only a Rev 1.0, since it's new - it supports all AM3+ CPUs since the same bios revision, so will run 8350 out of the box.

I'm planning on getting one fairly soon (though will pair with an old AM3 Athlon for the short-term, before a 8320 upgrade), so I would be interested on hearing how you get on with overclocking if you do get one.
 
You Sir are a legend, I didn't notice this board as its not on OCUK's list of Gigabyte boards but its exactly what I'm after I really appreciate you posting. The only thing that's slightly off putting is the VIA on board sound but it'll have to do as everything else is bang on what I want and at an awesome price point.

Just picked the board up, unfortunately its a Christmas present so wont be able to post any experiences with it until after Christmas but just wanted to say thanks again as its an awesome spec for the price and its a shame OCUK don't stock it

I've just ordered my Be Quiet Dark Rock 2 from OcUK though which seems to be out of stock everywhere else
