We always have prawn cocktail as a starter on Christmas Day. Or soup. Or sometimes both. And god am I bored with that.

Anyone got any better ideas for a Christmas dinner starter?

Starter?
What do you have for a main course... do away with it and dig into the roast (or which there must be turkey + ham).

And you want to waste precious stomach space on silly prawns or the like?!
ARE YOU MAD?!

Go straight into that badboy.

Moved for you ;)

I love Salmon Gravlax with Fresh Dill on some lovely buttered fresh bread, its a lovely light but tasty start to what will obviously a calorific main

What about pate or a terrine of some sort? Parma ham and melon? Haggis balls with whisky sauce?

Failing all of that maybe look at some festive menus (or even regular menus) from restaurants and see if there's anything you feel like that would be easy enough to make on the day.

Devilled kidneys or potted shrimp. I think Gordon Ramsey has a couple recipes which make excellent starters
