My fabulous ship
Hi guys I've been asked from my work to spec them a pc for myself to use.

I will be coding their web site and using flash components as well as small media encoding but nothing too big, I have a current spec for 339 at the moment:

Antec Three Hundred Ultimate Gaming Case Link 1 Link 2 £33.19

Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.50GHz (800FSB) £58.74

MSI P31 Neo2-FR Intel P31 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard £46.99

OcUK 2GB (2x1GB) PC2-6400C5 800MHz DDR2 Dual Channel Kit £23.49

Asus GeForce EN8800 GT 512MB GDDR3 HDTV/Dual DVI (PCI-Express) £93.99

Corsair VX 450W ATX PSU (CMPSU-450VXUK) £49.34

LG GH20NS15 20x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM £15.26

Hitachi Deskstar T7K500 250GB ATA-133 8MB Cache - OEM (0A33408) £34.06

Sub Total: £339.80

Any way I can improve it? probably best if I get a more corporate looking case tbh, can you guys suggest me one? Its a music company so something attractive but not much more expensive.

Thanks guys :)

I'd go with this:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 320GB SATA-II 16MB Cache - OEM (ST3320613AS) £34.99

Corsair 2GB DDR2 XMS2-6400C4 TwinX (2x1GB) £29.99

Samsung SH-S223F/BEBE 22x DVD±RW SATA Dual Layer ReWriter (Black) - OEM £12.99

Asus Vintage V3-P5945GC Barebones System - Intel Core 2 Duo (LGA775) £59.99

Intel Pentium Dual-Core E5200 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.50GHz (800FSB) - Retail £49.99

Sub Total : £187.95

Total : £231.36

The system has onboard graphics so if you're going to run more than one monitor add an ATI card since these also help take some of the load off the cpu when encoding.

I'll put it towards them for 2 monitors but tbh I've always been content with 1 monitor - a widescreen would do me fine. I cant expect them to supply dual screens for my staff when I start recruiting.

A second screen is soooo much betetr when coding or doign graphics work, especially when you want to use any referances..

Content yes, but there's a large productivity advantage when using dual monitors - I'd take 2x 22" monitors over 1x 30" monitor any day. Depends how serious your employer is about these machine. For HTML/Flash, you can throw together any cheapy system, it's not going to bog down with even a relatively 'slow' machine. it's your peripherals that make the difference with time in these circumstances.

Agree completely about multiple monitors - my last employer was very keen on them, dev boxes all had 3 (1x24", 2x19"), whereas he had about 6! Current employer gives us 1 :(
