I play a lot of Division and will be getting Divi 2. I want to set up my own team talk solutions. I was looking at Teamspeak and Discord. Discord seems to be free. What do you guys use and recommend? It will just be for me and my mate to use as we also play together.

Thanks in advance.

Myself and 3 friends have been using discord for a couple of years now having come from Teamspeak and it's been brilliant. Would thoroughly recommend it.

I dont know if its something to do with my discord account or something but for me its been absolute rubbish of late.
Initially it was really good and clear crisp etc but now days everytime i use it i find its like being under water and robot like.

Switched the other day from discord to the in gmae voice on division 1 and the clarity was night and day different, so much better.

As i say not sure if i need the account looking at by the devs or something but for me of late its been shocking.

I will say one thing about Discord and The Division..I love Discord, use it for all my games. However, for some reason on The Division I have no end of troubles with Discord. It becomes erratic, drops my voice constantly, absolutely slaughters my fps on the Division. Really have no idea why it does it, works perfectly fine on hundreds of other titles but for the Division I just cant use it.

This is one of the reasons I dislike Discord. Our gaming group has always disliked the Opus voice codec, preferring Speex, but like you, recently I've found that listening to people on discord there are more breaks/robot like sounds and warbly noises. Teamspeak has none of these issues on the same connection at the same time. I've also found that with my HyperX Cloud that Discord in its wisdom, seems to mic boost a particular hum my mic has, Teamspeak doesn't do this. The hum is so quiet by default that to hear it I have to do a mic check and turn my headset windows volume up from 8-12 to 100, and I can then just hear it - generally any sound over when on 20 volume is loud IMO. And if Discord goes down, you're stuffed.

Teamspeak, while you need to run server software if you're hosting, is less feature rich, but works better IMO. You connect to whoever is hosting the server, and if for some reason you can't, there's always the Teamspeak Public server as a backup. Teamspeak is also free, unless they've changed recently.

Why not join the OcUK discord server?

I'd agree with the consensus that discord is very user friendly and free, teamspeak is a higher quality (voice quality) stripped down voice chat product that is more reliable.

We use discord because it is just more viable for a small group, but it has occasional dropouts (minor enough not to bother me though)

Just an FYI, if multiple people have robotic voices it can normally be fixed by changing the server region to something else and back again. Obviously if it's just a single person chances are it's them not discord.

Teamspeak 5 if it ever comes out could be a viable replacement.

TIL TS5 is in dev, I wonder why they skipped 4?

I presume it on the same basis windows 9 was skipped they felt it's substantially different from its predecessor.

It's a shame they never bothered to rejig the UI in the old TS don't think discord would be around if they had made more of an effort to make TS user friendly.

if you go with teamspeak you welcome to use a channel on my ts server. There will be a few of us playing the div 2 you would be welcome to join.
