Hi All,

I currently have a full blown Canon SLR with a range of lenses, however there are many occasions where I feel that taking the SLR is a bit OTT. Therefore I am always having to resort to my phone, which is good compared to most phones, however can never replace an actual camera - especially in low light applications where I avoid taking the SLR, for example evening do's and parties.

Therefore, I am looking for a decent compact camera. I've not really got a budget, all it needs to be is good value for money, fairly compact and preferably Canon - although I am open to other makes.

I have tried to avoid buying Sony in the past as they don't use standard SD cards, however if this has changed - go for it!

Most people will probably suggest the Sony RX100 range (there are now MK1 to MK4 on the market according to how deep your pockets are).

Seems like the Sony range is better than the Canon compact range.

I really like the look of the RX100! Thanks for the help, now to do some more research into exactly which RX100 to get.

If your budget won't stretch to the Sony consider the canon s1xx range very good compacts, fit in a jeans pocket and I struggle to tell the difference at normal print sizes and sensible ISO when compared to my 5d mkii

For what it's worth I picked up my rx100m3 from my local camera shop, used but mint, along with ~£100 of accessories for £349 total. I think the announcement of the m4 has suppressed the prices of the older ones nicely.....

Darkness - that seems like a very reasonable price, especially with accessories!

I will have to find a good local camera shop and see what they have. £349 is bang on about what the budget is really. Anything more is borderline DSLR territory - although I don't mind spending that much money, just think I might as well buy a better DSLR.
