Spec me a conroe Rig

Hi All,

I've finally had enough (really enough!) of overclocking and just want a really high spec PC.

I want to go for the fastest conroe or close to it.

Budget isn't too important - I'm talking fully new PC. RAM, MOBO, CPU, PSU etc etc.

Thanks for your help.

There have been a large amount of threads similar to this lately. You don't even have to search, just browse this forum category. As you don't have a budget, it'll give you an idea of what you can get for your money. Quite a few posters have put their budget in their subject title.

Humour aside then (sorry).

Have a look at some other specs as suggested above - you'll see that you can recycle a fair bit of your current rig.

Might mean more money left over for peripherals etc??

I would really need a budget to work other wise its just a waste of time.

Could you tell us more about your current G.skill ram like if it DDR2 and what speed it is as this might have to be replaced.

I'd think a 6600 or a 6700 CPU would be your best bet and if you don't want to overclock then get the intel 965 motherboard. Your current graphics card and PSU are great.

Can't be, its an Opty :D

Real question is, what's wrong with current rig?

lol, because it can't overclock further? & I argue that current rig is a 'really high spec PC' :D :p

No argument there! :D

Had enough fun flaming yet or should I let it continue for a bit..?

With my current PC and this heat it dies with ANY form of OC. It runs well at 1.8ghz but not fantastically.

I'd quite like Conroe and some good RAM + Mobo too and just be done with it.

It dies with heat, you could try to sort out that on your current PC it may be something really simple.

What case you using?

(They are not flaming, they are commenting on how good your rig is!)

Is this thread serious or am I missing the joke?

The rig you have is fine until the arrival of DX10. The PC in your sig can run any game @ 1920 x 1200 maxxed!! what more do you want.

If you are having an issue with heat.. do a bit of research into how to create better cooling for the component/s that are overheating.

It wouuld be a waste of money upgrade just yet with your current system.

Unless someone has offered you a lot of money for your rig or you're a benchmark whore there really isn't much point. You could just clock a bit slower and drop the vcore if it isn't on the stable side. If you do want a new rig though, I'm sure you have some kind of budget.

I have to echo the others on this, fix your current problem.......

My venice can handle this extreme weather with the current OC, and my buddies opty can still keep stable at 2.8....

I'm sure you can fix the problem instead of buying another PC.

Does sound to me like they're complimenting you, not flaming you...

Seriously, judging from what I've seen in the CPU and OC forums, getting a Conroe and NOT overclocking it would be a really great shame. At stock, it'd probably only be marginally faster than what you've got, it'll only show its potential if it's overclocked. So, if that's not what you want to do, you may as well wait and see how far Intel manages to push its stock speeds before you buy into Conroe.

to be honest mate, you've already got a very high spec machine.
if your simply annoyed about heat issues and want to give up on overclocking then why not invest in some better cooling solutions?
get a better case, some decent fans, a better HSF for the CPU, or even go watercooling?

if you are set on getting conroe, you could probably reuse a lot of what you've already got

XFX 7950
Dell 2405FPW 930BF
3x 74Gb Raptor
1x 36Gb Raptor
250Gb SATAII
Enermax 600W

all of that can be carried over.

now presuming that stuff gets carried over.

HI All,

Thanks for your imput on all of this. The reson why i'm looking at a different solution is because I currently have watercooling in a Lian-Li PC70 case. Its a 120.3 rad, Swiftech Storm4 block and i'm still getting 36C at stock of 1.8ghz - You can forget about clocking it any further..

As for the instability, any one have any ideas as to what it could be? Is it purely heat related?

Thirdly, going Conroe and not clocking is a waste I know. But I want a fast, quite "hassle free" PC. I don't want to have to keep a good eye on temps or make sure my Chipset isn't going to rocket up becuase the GX2 covers half of the chipset fan..! (massive heat buildup there and I don't know how to dissipate it!) :( :|

If anyone can think of how to cure my PC it'll be much appreciated.
