Spec me a cooler for 2500k

I plan on overclocking to around 4.5Ghz, possibly higher. I considered the Silver Arrow but as far as I know it won't fit in my case (Zalman Z9 Plus). I'd rather not buy a new case just to accommodate a cooler.

I've seen the Gelid Tranquillo come well recommended but how would that perform with a large overclock?

How are the sealed unit water coolers in terms of performance?

the better air coolers are better/on par with water coolers. As you have no space, you may aswell get a water cooler. H60/khuler

they will be fine with your 4.5ghz

The Gelid Tranquillo will be a bit weak for a 4.5GHz i5 2500k at full load. Expect core temperatures to peak above 80 deg C under IBT with AVX.

That dont mean much as theres a big difference if you want 5ghz.

I won't try for 5ghz. Max will probably be 4.7ghz.

4.7ghz is a bit much for a Gelid, it will do it but the temps will be high.

Theres no reason for a Silver Arrow not to fit your case, its 160mm high.

So can you take the side panel off, lay something straight across the opening and then measure to the PCB from this?

Do you have any fans attached to the side panel?

I have a Prolimatech Megahalem with 2 fans on it and my temps are maxing 63-65 in Prime with a 4.5 oc with 1.26volts (I think, I keep lowering, can't remember where I am now). Idles at mid-high 30's.

edit - Just saw your note about the SA not fitting your case, this might not either...

I did have 2 attached but I removed them to fit my new psu as the fans were quite low on the panel, so no, I don't have any attached now.

I currently have the Cooler Master Hyper TX3 which is either 139mm tall or 153mm tall. There are 2 numbers for height on the CM site. There is approximately 2cm more clearance from cooler to side panel.

If I buy the SA arrow and can't get the side panel on, how bad would it be to keep it off all the time?

also, the sliver arrow is 163mm tall, with some people measuring their own and getting 167mm.

if you are sure about getting a new case then obviously go for the silver arrow when its in stock, but if you dont go for a new case but want a good air cooler go for the Zalman CNPS9900MAX blue LED or Red LED

no matter what your ram is i guarantee it will fit in your case

I decided not to buy the new case as I would have only been getting it to house the Silver Arrow.
