Spec me a Cooler!

Right so i'm going to need a cooler that'll have enough clearance for an Asrock Z68 Extreme4 Intel that will have 16GB of corsairs high profile vengeance ram. Budget is no more than £40, if nothing fits then I guess i'll have to get a closed loop water system for the cpu, would prefer a epic air cooler though :cool:

Your answer is in the second half off your sentence, thats the only route that is guaranteed to fit.

Check this out for an example of the problem you face, rotating the cooler so the fan was blowing east to west was even worse.

Grrr right, are there any mobos of similar spec to the Asrock that would enable something like a fenrir to be installed with all the ram slots occupied?

I can only suggest looking at pictures of motherboards at manufacturer websites and trying to find one that has the biggest gap between the socket and closest RAM slot.

Not scientific, but its all I can think of doing

You can see above that it only needs another 5mm or so for there to be no issues.

I have just looked at the,

ASUS Z68-V
MSI Z68 GD65
Gigabyte Z68XP UD3P

And they all seem the same distance.

Yeah, doesn't seem like much hope, not sure why but I really don't want to go closed loop! Been looking at EKs 240 kits, any idea how powerfull the EK-DCP 4.0 pump is thats supplied with it? (I've seen the specs but don't have experience so can't judge) I'm thinking of getting the 240 kit (lazy bugger

) and using it for the cpu, then later getting a 120 rad and adding it into the loop for the cpu and move the 240 for the vga card?

its a touch out of your budget (£43.91), but i can confirm that this doesnt cover any of my RAM slots

Zalman CNPS9900MAX blue LED or Red LED

aside from that the only option i can see is going for a watercooler

finally, found a decent picture:

as you can see it clears the ram very easily on that motherboard. not sure what motherboard that is but the distance between RAM and processor cant vary too much can it?

I have a Freezer Pro 13 on a p8z68, it leaves about 5mm clearance between the cooler fan and the first ram slot. If the extreme4 has the same distance between the socket and the first ram slot as the P8Z68 it should fit fine, £27 too so well within budget. The Freezer 'extreme' is also pretty much the same size (slightly wider) and should also fit for £29.99

Alternatively you could sell off that 16gb of high profile memory and get some low profile vengeance or xms3, and fit what ever cooler you like...
