Hi Guys,

Im in the market for a cooling sytem thats main goal is to be as silent as posible. There is no need for this machine to be clocked at any point (sorry guys :().

The machine has a Gigabyte GA-8IP775-G motherboard, a P4 775 3.6GHz CPU, couple of sound cards, 3 HDD's, a naff PSU and a god awful case.

Anoyingly its going to be positioned in a desk similar to this (dont ask :D) in one of these cubby holes similar to the bottom right of of the desk pictured, but without the back part. However there is not too much room behind the desk.

Advice please :)

Have a look at either of the Zalman passive radiator models.
I have a Reserater 2 on my HTPC, it is silent and keeps a X2 3800, 7800GTX and the MB northbridge all at under 25C.

The Zalman kits get slagged off on this forum fairly often as they are not very good with OCed systems , but they are easy to up compared to active kits.

Thanks for taking the time to reply bomag, its appreciated. I was looking at the passive water cooling kits and thinking they would be ideal :)

If the bank manager decides im not allowed that, could you recomend a decent air cooled cpu cooler?

I think im also going to put this lot in a Lin Li pc-60 case with a selection of uber quiet fans (the paptest 80mm look good and the 120mm scythe too)

Before I WC my HTPC I had a Zalman 9500 on minimum revs which was effective. Alternatively you could look at a Thermalright Ultra 120 with a 1000rpm fan. I just put one on my Q6700 @ 3.45 Ghz and it runs at 22C idle and 46c dual prime using a scythe fan.
