my current motherboard has had it , the usb ports stop and start all the time and there are times i cannot get my pc to work

after much searching for a new socket 1155 motherboard im wondering what i can get for roughly £300 ( I could push to £400 if the extra money is worth spending )

so what im looking for is a motherboard and processor maybe ram if i need it

i currently have the following in my pc

antec 1200 case
SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black
MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming Edition 4096MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
GeIL EVO Leggera 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (GEL38GB1600C9DC)
Samsung 250GB SSD 840 SATA 6Gbs Basic - (MZ-7TD250BW)
1tb hard drive (unknown at this time )

Be Quiet! Shadow Rock Pro SR1 CPU Cooler

Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail

********* broken motherboard ***********************

Gigabyte Z77-D3H Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard

Im still thinking about the idea of getting a PCI USB Card
but im a little worried as the motherboard is already sick that it might just push it over

so im just wondering if it might be better to upgrade the core and what it would cost me

thanks anyway for even looking

What devices are plugged in to USB ports?

ATM only mouse and keyboard
and i can only get usb 3 and 7 i think working some times the others work

it all started after my son spilled ice cream on my ipod wire and shorted out the front ports
since then my power supply blew so i had to buy a new one which it thought was the problem but over time its become worse

ive kinda lived with the problem for over 12 months now and thought i might just take the plunge and buy a new motherboard but as socket 1155 are not so easy to come by i was wondering if a upgrade is worth doing

I'm not sure, but would there be any problems with the computer case front USB ports?

I did think exactly the same

so when it first started to happen i got a IcyBox 4 Port USB 3.0 Hub with USB Charge Point (IB-AC611)which i plugged into the the back in a usb port but i cannot get that to work

then i have usb for mobiles and ipods tablets even a graphic tablet and its next to impossible to get the usb port to see them
but the best place to see them is on the front port but not always the back usb do not find them

even when the mouse and keyboard where plugged into the port one and two they cannot be found all the time

ive even changed my mouse because i thought my mouse was broken

ive tried updating the drivers which completely removed all the usb which was not fun trying to get them back on

plus some of my keyboard lights are being held on all the time only if i turn the power off will they turn off

Have you tried (within Windows):

Change Advanced Power Settings > USB Settings > USB Selective Suspend Setting > Disabled

Worked for a friend with mobo USB/keyboard/mouse issues, recently.

my main worry is one day i will wake up and have no usb ports at all

so this is my main reason for taking the plunge

even if work around could solve the problem I would always feel uneasy

and every day could be my last with a usb

so im kinda sold on the upgrade option
and looking at

I'm also wondering what heatsink/ fan options and 16 gb ram anyone recommend

im also thinking whats the cost difference in this and skylake

and what s the speed difference if its worth it money and speed wise
