Spec me a Coupe!

This guy is 18 remember, i'd also assume it's his first car, so let's not get into the business of recommending MR2's.....

Not my first car, I should have 1 YNC by September, along with a half paid off Getz that's swallowing my wage (repayments, main dealer servicing etc)

Its a true point about his age though.

An NA one will be half the price and some of them will be kitted like mine was :) Even cheaper to insure. The cars themselves are older, but that doesnt matter at the end of the day.

Well i still wouldn't have thought an MR2 would be a good idea after driving a Getz around for a year.

My mate has a 406 and although it looks nice(ish) it is so uninspiring to drive, unless you get the V6 I would swerve a 406

Also its french, nuff said

RWD?

Yeah, suppose it does have that going for it too ;)

406 Coupe looks the daddy, although i'd check if its insurable.
Failing that i'd also be considering the Puma, they come in 1400cc flavour if that's affordable...

I see what you did there

I dont mean to knock what you say at all, but.. what coupe's in the 3k bracket would you actually buy? So far in other threads everyone mentioned is uninspiring :p

If you cant reccomend anything then..

good call good call :p

Maybe I am just totally blinded by all things M3 but for 3K I wouldn't even try for a sporty coupe but go for something more realistic

I would be tempted to go the MR2 route for 3k if it was my money or maybe push for a little more money and get a higher mile e36 325 but the mr2 would be more fun

I do have a soft spot for Calibras especially the 4x4 tubbies :) but then I will get shouted down for that :p

see this is why I stick to pointing out the bad points rather than suggesting other options

stick to what your good at I say!

You didnt have yours long enough to get round to doing maintenance on a 10+ year old car.

Cost Dale V quite a lot to maintain his N/A one iirc. Guy across the road had some right trouble with his N/A one. He gave up on it and sold it on in the end. Even with above average reliable cars like these, there always comes a time when they get knarly.

Simply better looking than any other Coupe anyone else can possibly suggest, no question.

2.0 16v SE, that'll do nicely.

for 3K you could find a 3.0 V6, if you are 18 though, insurance will cost you as they can be rated high groups.

If you are after one of the best looking cars in the last 20years, this is the one.

I'm a bit of a car noob, but I love the FTO, don’t really know much in terms of reliability etc but they look the part.

Can I suggest a mk1 MX-5, lovely car and I bet an 18 year old could manage one. Get the 1.6 with 115bhp if you want cheaper insurance. Though if you can get a nice 1.8 then you will be laughing. :) Also pop up headlights! \o/

Helluva lot more so than a hyundai coupe though you have to agree. Very good performance by all accounts too.

Fiat Coupe (Check Non turbo) - 8.4

Hyundai Coupe (2.0 SE or F2) - 8.1 or 8.3
http://www.parkers.co.uk/choosing/carreviews/review.aspx?model_id=350&page=8

Same performance by all accounts.

Looks wise, both are like marmite it seems, i really like the coupe, but dislike the fiat, while others are the other way round, or theres steve who dislikes eveything :P

Rover 2.0 Turbo Engine

For under £2000 you can pick up an absolute mint example with aircon, full leather... and the rest of the toys.

Ok, so if you're a badge snob or are worried what people might think of you don't go for one, but if you want performance without paying the price, the 2 litre Turbocharged Coupe is a hell of a car for the money!
I'll second that. I loved ecery minute of mine. Like **** off a shovel :).

And last post for now!

Ive never driven one, the looks are so-so, but from what i've read at least they sound fantastic, depends on what sort of image the OP wants i guess :)
