Looking for a 2.0 or simlar to repalce my faithful megane coupe 1.6 8v.
Now im tempted with the 2ltr versions as ther pritty decent and quick but dont know if i want another meg.
So people of OCUK spec me a coupe that will be comfy quick enough to keep with a 172 if possible nothing silly for insurance please and about £4000.

Cheers

Not many 2ltr coupes are going to keep up with a 172, check out some astra coupes, 2litre turbo. Could be had at that price but with high mileage!

A Fiat Coupe 2.0VT will beat a 172. But it doesn't handle as well.

You can get a simple internal chip which delimits the turbo boost in first and second (from 0.8 to 1) bringing it upto 260BHP. Someone here got 5.7 seconds to 60. :)

Rover Coupe Turbo :)

Should be able to get a good one for just over a grand and the insurance/running costs are very reasonable for the performance you get.

Spend a few hundred on decent suspension, brakes and exhaust and you'll have yourself a very nice car.

In stock form it handles brilliantly. Anymore power and the handling starts to get pushed.

The gtec chip does remove the boost limiter, however it has nothing to do with what gear you are in. If the revs rise to quickly, then it will limit boost. This is only likely to happen in 1st and 2nd gear, or if you wheel spin.

The chip is also mapped for fueling up to 1.2bar, where the standard chip only goes up to 1.1 bar. Adding the chip alone doesn't add to the bhp of the car.

If you've got concerns over insurance, forget the word turbo, unless it is preceeded by the word diesel. :p

The tricky part is definitely the element about keeping up with a 172.
Down a backroad, something like a newer Celica is likely to do quite well, but they're outside the £4k bracket.
You could look at a 200SX, but even the S13 is I believe group 17.
A Probe v6 or Mazda MX6 would be faster in a straightline, and might be worth a look.

ok forget keeping up with the 172, just looking for something quick to take to the ring next year non turbo as insurance will kill me, altho i dont mind spending some money tuning the car if the cars cheap enough to buy.

At your age with 0 ncb, I was paying £1700 on an insurance group 14 Rover Coupe 2.0 na.

No way I could afford something higher grouping than that.

200sx, MR2-t. Forget it. If it has a turbo then the insurance is going to be too high.

Grp 17 Rover Turbo, 21, 0 NCB, Pending claim = £2000 for me.

That's with a crappy OL postcode

Could probably get it a bit cheaper if I amended my policy docs to show the CAT1 alarm. I told the woman on the phone but I don't think she understood me. It's just down as 'Immobiliser'.

Stupid welsh! :D
