You can't get dual core into the budget if going for AMD (and Intel dual core is socket 775 of which few motherboards support DDR) so I'd go for this and clock it as far as you can.

CP-150-AM AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego (Socket 939) - OEM (CP-150-AM)
£53.49 £53.49
MB-014-DF DFI LanParty UT NF4 Ultra-D (Socket 939) PCI-Express Motherboard (MB-014-DF)
£54.99 £54.99
FG-000-AR Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro CPU Cooler (Socket 754/939/940) (FG-000-AR)
£9.99 £9.99
Subtotal £118.47
Shipping (City Link Parcel Next Day (Delivered Mon-Fri)) £8.25
VAT £22.18
Total £148.90

You could squeeze in an E6300 and Asrock 775Dual-VSTA but I wouldn't go for anything less substantial, particularly if your using it at stock then an upgrade like a 939 64 3700+ would be a waste. If your only talking playing mp3s and browsin the web and your main use is gaming, might as well stick with what you have, a graphics card upgrade (depending on what you have now) prolly be more productive than a CPU.

What AGP card you got, will it sell and fund new rig?

6800 Ultra AGP. Not sure what its worth these days :p

At a guess you should probably be aiming to get somewhere around £70-80 which would more or less get you a 7600gt in PCI-E form, so it is a bit of a sideways jump but the new card would be slightly better.

Upgrade to Conroe at a later date, when more funds available - whats your present setup? Maybe you can sell all that & recoup some costs i.e spend £350 & sell old stuff for say £200ish? as an example?
