I posted something similar a while ago but ended up confusing myself in the process. This time, I'll keep it simple :D

This is for my son, who's running an ancient 1800xp/x800 hand-me-down.

I have, going spare, a 680i SLI mobo, 4GB DDR2 800MHz, a BFG 8800GTX and a big ol' CM Stacker to bung it in.

Can you spec me a CPU, a PSU and a HDD combo for a price of around £120 - £150. Can go a bit over if there's a large increase in performance at that range.

Best bang for buck, s'il vous plâit.

(Did I mention I'm skint? ;))

Yes, sorry - should have mentioned SATA-only. I never, ever want to see one of those airflow-killing ribbons again :D

Yep, WD1600AAJS would be sure choise.

For PSU there's no reason to go above 500W, Corsair VX450 or 425W Enermax Modu/Pro 82+would be enough. (Corsair has only one PCIe power connector)
Money saved in that would give E5200 which is faster clocked and has twice of L2 cache.

Hmm, this Enermax? http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-034-EN

The problem I get when looking at OcUK's PSU range is that I can never tell if they have the required 2 connectors for the 8800GTX.

If this is suitable, then I'm looking at this:
Western Digital Caviar Blue 160GB SATA-II 8MB Cache - OEM (WD1600AAJS) £25.99
(£30.54)
Intel Pentium Dual-Core E2180 "LGA775 Core 2" 2.00GHz (800FSB) - Retail £43.99
(£51.69)
Enermax Pro 82+ 425W EPR425AWT ATX2.3 Silent PSU £41.99 (£49.34)
Sub Total : £111.97
Shipping : £8.95
VAT : £21.16
Total : £142.08

Not too shabby!

What would the next major step-up in processor be, as a matter of interest?
