Spec me a CPU?

Currently have an 8350 @ 4.8GHZ, paired with 16GB of ram, gigabyte 990fxa-ud3 and a 980TI.

I am itching to upgrade my CPU and MOBO - I can sell both bundled for around 160 I think to a friend.

Is it worth an upgrade? what do you think I could get for <300 that would be a lot better?

No need for a cooler as I have a H80I.

I'd look into buying a used 1150 i7 (4770k/4790k) and a decent motherboard to go with, possibly an ASUS ROG Gene unless you need a full sized board.

As above, though try to get a 4790k as they clock better. Coupled with a Z97 board. The chip will work on Z87 but you might as well go for the newer chipset.

What a bad recommendation... He said 300 or less, you specced him a £300 CPU, ATLEAST a £180 motherboard and then DDR4 ontop...
