Now i've got that out of my system

I know i shouldn't bother but some things people say just aren't accurate so i feel i should continue the debate in the hope common sense may prevail!!!
Warranty's good but if theres one thing you can rely on its a CRT not breaking! they seem to generally go on for 5 yrs +. I'd rather pick up a 2nd hand one for £40 then if it breaks..(very unlikely in the first few years...) then just buy another etc...rather than buying a new one for £200-250 that might not even be as good.
I've said before but i recently picked up a P1220 (£40)which i've been very pleased with off a well known auction site. Its capable of 1024x768 @ 150hz which is a reasonable compromise, or better still 1280x1024 @ 120hz.
I can understand casual gamers feeling that even first person shooters look better (high res) and have more vibrant colours on an lcd (which is very true!). I'd even say i prefer the graphics on an lcd and i don't fully understand all this contrast/picture quality stuff a lot of CRT owners say about...to me LCD's "look" better in all games these days as i love the really bright colours

....however..
You'd have to be a right idiot to imply an LCD is "better" than a good CRT for any first person shooter unless you really are a bit rubbish or your trying to defend a recent very expensive LCD purchase
Its just the whole smoothness/ tearing / hz thing gives them an absolutely undeniable advantage over any lcd. I feel maybe this difference would be maybe less on a game like CS but it'd still be there. It'd become very evident in a fps game with more aiming skill involved (

) like quake / warsow / unreal etc etc where your movement isn't completely cripled to the point anyone can get a crosshair on you very quickly, therefore making the smoothness/lack of tearing/feel less of (but still!) an advantage on a CRT.
This happens all the time, people go on a good responsive LCD such as the 226bw and think "wow great graphics, very sharp...can't notice much lag if any" and for the vast majority of gamers this is ideal. Then if they had a go on a good CRT again at major hz they'd be really surprised by the extra smoothness. I'm not implying every user should use CRT for first person shooters as most people don't care and its good enough for them and games generally look better with brighter colours etc etc but i am trying to explain that CRT holds an advantage over LCD when it comes to the players ability who's playing
Note : LCD's > CRT's for every other sort of game ! etc!
Rant over!!!
