spec me a decent camera/camcorder please :)

Ok I have a Nokia 1020 phone, love it apart from lack of apps (home cinema devices).... So I have decided to buy a android phone, but would really like a small camera or camcorder that takes amazing pictures and videos. Something with a great auto mode is a must!

What would you recommend?

Sounds like you just want a small point and shoot camera of some kind? If that's the case all point & shoot cameras and much the same these days and they all take the same reasonably average photos, pick one in your price range that has the features you want. As pretty much everyone in this part of the forum will be SLR users not many will have any experience with point & shoot to able to say much more than that really.

As for auto modes, no such thing as a great one, again all cameras are much of a muchness.

If on the other hand you want something to take some good photographs without spending a fortune look at a second hand DSLR and a couple of the cheaper 35/50mm primes. A bridge camera might be worth a look a well, but I can't say I know enough about them to offer any meaningful advice.

Budget up to £1200 am now thinking of getting a decent camcorder. Footage will be mostly daytime at the parks with my daughter, school plays etc

Perhaps look at something like the Sony rx10 although not camcorder it will be very good and you'll get a good camera also ,doubt there is any camcorders in the thousand pound range that will beat it ,but ergonomics may be different .
