After many years of doing without one we have decided the time is right to get one now.

We have tried a couple of different types and in the end gave them away as we did not like them for various reasons.

My better half is convinced she has seen a DFF that only uses a spoonful of oil and does not generate all the steam that is usually associated with them.

Anyone have any ideas?

I think the fryer your other half is talking about is the Acti-Fry. My mum uses one all the time at hers. It's true it doesn't produce the steam/smell, but at the same time it's not really a DFF.

I think if you've got the cupboard space then a fryer is sometimes useful to have around. They're not super expensive to buy, and they're safer than using a pan full of oil. Using them under the extractor on your oven hob can help reduce the smell.
