Well, I put my fist through my faithful 2407 and am looking for something of a similar size and wonderfulness. Have a budget of around £300 - £400. Have looked at similar Dells on OCUK but I'm not paying £600 - £1000. What should I be looking at instead?

If I was replacing a 2407, it would have to be with a U2410...or if you can't manage that the U2311 or HP ZR24w possibly.

Do you require the broad colour gamut? If not the U2412M is due to launch next month by the looks of things. RRP is around $400 so hopefully it will come in at around £300 which is certainly lower than the price of the U2410. It features the same resolution, stand type, DisplayPort, Dell warranty etc. but comes with a WLED backlight (~ sRGB).

Is your current broken monitor the 2407WFP or 2407WFPHC? The 'HC' on the end stands for 'high colour' (or something along those lines) and features a 'broad' or 'wide' colour gamut. Put simply it means it can potentially display a broader range of colours than most monitors (including the 'regular' 2407 and the upcoming U2412M). If your current monitor is the 2407WFP and you were happy with it before it broke then the U2412M is worth waiting for. If it was the 'HC' version and you found the 'vibrancy' in your games very appealing then this may change things slightly. ;)

I switched from a 2407 to the ASUS PA246Q. Very pleased with it much more vibrant and sharper then the Dell, everything looks crystal clear. HD video quality is amazing and no lag in games.

Bit pricey but well worth it on par with top of the range NEC, EiZO Displays in my opinion.

I'm in the same position as OP (albeit without the fist!).

I am in need of replacing my dell with something a little bigger, with the aim of retaining (or surpassing) the image quality of the Dell Ultrasharp 2407WFP which has served me extremely well for the last 3 years!

Mainly used for gaming and surfing too.

Was looking at the Hazros - what's the verdict now the dust has settled and a few people have purchased the competitively priced Hazro 27"s? A worthy replacement to the 2407WFP for example?

Cheers!

I use a HZ27WA as a replacement for my old Dell 2405FPW and the image quality is much nicer overall.

You do lose that Dell build quality but if you aren't moving your monitor a lot then you aren't likely to notice it at all to be honest. I'd highly recommended getting a none glass version.

I have a Dell 2407WFP like many on here and would like something new but what? Could get a 2nd 24" 1920 display and put them side by side or go for a cheaper make 27". hmmm.

I just love the Dell though. But pricey.

Might wait for this U2412M. But at the same time bigger is better no matter what really, maybe just a cheap 27" or 30". can't decide.

**** it, you know I just want a 30". I don't suppose anyone knows when the Dell 30" LED might be comming out? Might sell the 24 to my brother or something. :D

I wouldn't say that....(for desktop & 2D use...yes)

As i seem to be better at games on a smaller screen then a very large screen...
for non FPS games I disagree, MMOs and RTS games are better on larger + higher res screens without doubt, not sure on FPS but reckon thats psychological as with higher resoluton you can see more of the game so you get more warning that you are about to be knived in the side.

Just gotta get used to it.

Anyway I need a new GFX card before a monitor upgrade so will wait for now. would love an LED 30".

That isn't true for the sake of this comparison. The amount of the game world you can see is dependent on the aspect ratio, not the resolution. All the higher resolution would do in this instance is increase the level of detail.

Fair enough, I stand corrected.
