Spec Me - A Desk Lamp

What a buncha killjoys! How about one of those lights that looks like a Van de Graaf Generator?

As long as they don't actually produce static electricity maybe. :p

I can't afford to replace my project embedded systems and 'my lamp wiped my eeprom' wont cut much ice with my lecturers I'm sure...

Although I hear they're quite high maintenance!

"Spec Me" threads just got to a new low.

A fricking "Desk Lamp". Seriously?

:(

Look online for one or go to Ikea.

Finding a decent LED lamp that has a touch switch and doesn't cost £70+ is pretty difficult.

I've found a light I like;

but I need to find somewhere in the UK that sells it first...

I know this is an old thread, but I found the perfect desk lamp over the summer. You an pick it up from the rainforest or you can import it directly.

It is the most solid lamp I've ever seen. Built in germany obviously. The light is equivalent to 100 watts but consumes something like 5w of power. The thing is very weighty so won't move about in your desk and the light is white, so better for your eyes as it's like day light (doubles as a SAD lamp I guess?).

Can't praise it enough!

That looks lovely OzyOly. It's 59.90 Euros on the link you posted which is about £49.41 which is quite reasonable I think. Obviously there'd be delivery costs and perhaps import costs. Kiom24 sell it themselves through the rainforest site for just short of £75. :p Depending on the delivery costs and any import VAT duties that may or may not be a good price. :)

I think some research is needed. I've two Ikea lamps and whilst they are OK, they are quite flimsy and the light is yellowish. If that Kiom24 lamp really is white light then I'm sold.

It's from Germany so won't be subject to VAT as it's already included. I got it through the rain forest though as I had money to burn in the summer, haha.

The light is very white, I'll take a photo for you.

Yeah I was thinking that the VAT shouldn't be a problem. I only ever import stuff from the US which is where the import duties come from. Delivery from Kiom24 for a lamp is 17.90 Euros (£14.76). If the price of the lamp is about £49.41 and delivery is about £14.76 then the total cost would be about £64.17. Just a little bit cheaper than the £74.90 Kiom24 charge through the rainforest site. :p

It doesn't really do it justice with my iPhone camera, it looks whiter than that in real life. ;)
Cheers. It does look nice white light. And the lamp itself looks pretty nice.
