Hi,
My elderly uncle (now in his 80's) recently asked me for advice about getting a new PC. When I asked him why, he said his current PC wasn't fast enough. I've done all the usual things to speed up his current system (bought about 4 or 5 years ago) such as deleting the temp files, etc. so I guess he's just getting bored with it
I should point out that other than writing letters and doing the accounts for various local charities, he doesn't exactly push the performance envelope of his current system! Games wise, he plays a few hands of solitaire and the old game of chess and that's it. He doesn't even have internet access! Mind you, he lives in the wilds of Lincolnshire, so that might not be out of choice
I'm planning on building him a new PC for Christmas. I thought of using a Haswell Core i3-4330 chip because it has the better on-board graphics and a fast clock speed (dual core will be fine for his needs) with at least 8 Gb of RAM on a Micro-ATX motherboard. I'm also planning to install an SSD so that it is quite obviously faster than his current machine.
Could someone recommend a good motherboard and memory combination that would meet this spec? Given his location, hardware reliability is going to be key. I live 3 or 4 hours drive away and his local PC store closed some years ago. Therefore I don't mind paying a little more for best quality components.
Thanks in advance for any advice given.
Best regards,
John
