Spec me a digital camera plz..

Hi there. It will be my birthday in a few weeks and i'm looking for a digital camera, as i have wanted one for a while.

the budget is around 100-150 maybe slightly more.

I need to be able to use this camera for my geography work, and research so it must be able to take good pictures outdoors, of beaches, waves etc...

However i also want to be able to take my camera out with me i.e. when i go on a night out in the town.

I also want some control over things, i.e. the level of control close to that of an SLR without the size etc.

Am i asking the impossible?

For that type of price I would suggest the Fugi finepix f40d ~£120-130 around the net.

This has just been replaced by the f50d which if you could stretch to it I would get. This is due to the added image stabilisation.

Alternatives would be canon power series but these head into the realms of bridge cameras. which dont seem to fit what you want as you are after a compact.

good recomendation i got the 40d 2 weeks ago im no camera guru but i been nothing but impressed with it for £116 what i paid
if the 50d is better than the 40d you will not be dissapointed.
btw the pentax optio a30 is highly regarded in this price range and was also on my short list.
The amount of cameras in this price range is phenomenal my head was spinning for days .......goodluck
