Hello chaps and chapesses,

I'm after a decent oven slash meat thermometer upon which you can enter a prong onto the meat and set an alert once it has reached a certain temperature.

I've found this, the polder programmable thermometer - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Polder-Prog...UTF8&colid=BYJMBA2VVCBD&coliid=I3PMWZZQFMVS4H

But the reviews are quite mixed on the us amazon.

Can anyone reccomend a good device?

Thanks all.

I got this one for Christmas and it's been really good so far.

The only negative I would say is that it can't do minus temperatures.

Other than that it's great.

That looks pretty good, I'll only be using it for meat or checking my oven temp so not interested in minus figures. Also it goes up to 300 centigrade, most of the others only go up to 200 ish, which is silly when most ovens go up to 240/250.

Just to double check, can you set it to alarm once it reaches a particular temperature? The description is a little ambiguous.

I've got this one coming, it's dual temp so I can see what the oven temperature actually is compared to what it says it is.

From looking at reviews on amazon.com it looks a little hit or miss, lots of 1 star ratings.

I think I'll go with the one suggested by Irish_Tom.

Edit - Just bought it and will feedback once I have a decent chance to use it, probably next weekends big roast.

From what i've seen, unless you spend a lot more and get an Extech or Fluke professional one they are all going to be the same design. I've been through a couple over the years but for £10-20 I don't think you can go too far wrong.

Hope you like it!

How are you getting on with it ganesh?

It was going well until Sunday afternoon, all of a sudden the unit went haywire and wouldn't measure temperature properly, the display will either show LLL or HHH or random temperature readings. I've tried turning it off and on, taking the battery out, unplugging the probe, but still broken, I think it's the unit as opposed to the probe.

Now I need to try and send it back, what a pain in the bum. I remember the instructions had some error codes on them, I don't suppose you can remember what they were? I need to have a search for them tonight.

Bugger, that's a bit ****!

I can't remember the codes I'm afraid, I can check when I get home. I've only seen LLL when I've unplugged the probe from the unit, don't think I've experienced HHH.

It would suggest the reading from the probe is either too low or high, taking it outside of the acceptable range for the device. It could be the probe providing erroneous voltages to the device as much as the device not reading the probe correctly I am afraid.
