How many shutter actuations has the camera got? If its a low number then yeah its a decent deal.

One way to make sure would be to get him to send a raw file of today's paper, then download this program;

and check the exact shutter actuation number. It seems like a decent deal though, although id try and haggle a bit as it can't do any harm.

nah we agreed on the price but I'll try and get him to send me a raw file (newest he has)

edit is it likely that he will have taken 50000 shots since he had it? is it does wear out can I get it mended?

He could have taken 50,000 shots, but that is a very high number. I think the mtbf on the D50 is 50,000 so you wouldn't be looking at much time unti lthe shutter would be likely to break. Yes you can get them fixed, but you are looking at a fair whack of money, potentially more than the camera cost you in the first place.

Release prices tend to give a better idea of market sector which is generally what denotes build quality.

Else you might as well start mentioning stuff like the D1 etc.

I thought the Rebel XTi was the EOS 400D, and that the Rebel XT was the EOS 350D??? Was that just a typo?

ah right thanks, i've found a deal for a deal for 250 with a near new D50 apparently only taken 400 shots with a SIGMA 28 - 80 f3.5-5.6 Zoom Lens is that good?
