I've decided to get a DX10 system. Few questions:

Is it worth waiting till more near xmas for new parts or for prices to drop?
Which DX10 card?

I already have monitor and soundcard. Spec me a system, love you guys!

What sort of a budget do you have here? Are you going to get Windows Vista(actually this one is pretty much a given for DX10 but it needs to be factored into the cost unless you are going to use an existing OS and upgrade later)?

ah sorry forgot.. yes, Vista i will get, UT2007, divx to dvd conversion, etc.

Was hoping less than £1500, but I'm flexible.

Think I'll go for:

£191.99 Intel Core 2 DUO E6600 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.40GHz (1066FSB)
8800: dunno which type.
rest i have no clue.

8800GTX is currently the best. Personally I would wait a while before going all in for a DX10 rig - unless of course you NEED to upgrade.

At the moment the DX10 cards are really very expensive and for no reason other than there is no competition. There aren't any DX10 games out either.

My advice would be get a high end rig [C2D etc] but go for an X1800/1900. The X1900 is still a beast of a card and can play anything you chuck at it and can be had for a great price. Then, further down the line when there are DX10 games worth playing [Crysis can be played in DX9 mode so doesn't count :p] go for a DX10 card. It will probably be cheaper and ATi should have their effort on the shelves to give you more choice.

Still, it is up to you :D

PCI? Been around longer than last christmas dude.

Besides, there is no waiting because nothing needs DX10 yet. It's not like during summer when it was a gamble whether to go AMD or wait for C2D. You can still go DX10 when it is actually worth shelling out for a DX10 card but at the moment 400 quid or more for a card that isn't needed for months seems like a waste of money.

Still, it is your money so do what you want. You asked for advice and you got it buddy :p
