I'm looking for a different F2P MMO to play on my old laptop (coreduo 1.6ghz, 1gb ram, ati mobility x1300).

Currently I play GW1, a beautiful game but I've done it to death, and so have recently dabbled with RuneScape because my other half plays that, but I need something new from the MMO genre. Any suggestions please?

Never thought about EQ before. Looking at the requirements EQ2 will run on it too and is also F2P. Would you say the F2P restrictions (ads, etc) are tolerable in both games?

I watched a stream of EQ the other night, and couldn't see any restrictions? I am sure someone might be able to tell you otherwise but as far as I saw, no restrictions. Probably just missing some content from expansions.

Shall definitely give EQ a go and see if I like it.

GW2 won't run on this. Laptop struggles with GW in some of the busier towns.

Have heard a few people namedrop LOTRO, is it still enjoyable without having read the LOTR books/watched the films?

LOTRO is good even without knowing the mythology behind it but that is probably the largest plus. Consequently, I would recommend you try the films (or books)!

Another very nice F2P MMO is Dungeons & Dragons Online. Played it like crazy until I got too busy due to studies and work :( Great active combat and superb customization.

Vanguard: SOH?

The F2P aspect is really good (you pretty much get everything bar discounts and some restrictions on gear as a free player) and it's a wonderfully big, immersive world, but it is six YO and some of the animation looks straight out of a Nick Park film.

Lord of The Rings Online which has some restrictions with content/maps or Aion which is totally free with no restrictions. I quite biased towards Aion, but out of all the MMo's I play this is by far the busiest and most populated one. The combat is second to none and leveling is super fast and there is actually too much content

*missed the PC specs in OP - forget Aion*
