Spec me a fan!

I've got 4 x SKU: NEX-D12SL-12PWM
Product: Nexus PWM Series 120x120x25 Quiet Case Fan : D12SL-12
hopfully turning up today or tomorrow. I wanted some PWM fans which im hopping with a splitter will work nicly.

(~£6 each... so fairly cheap especialy for a pwm fan... The sharkoons ES 2000rpm ones i could only find from two sites. both had very expensive shipping options which put me off)

they are rated as not that quiet, but im hopping with the PWM function they will run nice and quiet most of the time and only kick up to 2000RPM when im thrashing the machine...

I'll report back latter tonight if they are any imporvment over my xilence redwings - which don't push enough air through my TRUE cooler.

(reported spec of the fans i've bought)
Model D12SL-12
Dimensions 120 x 120 x 25mm
Acoustic Noise from 15.5 dB
Airflow up to 76CFM
Rotation Speed 500 to 2000 RPM
Voltage 12V
Connection 4 Wire PWM
Warranty 3 Years
Extras 4 x Ultra Soft Silicone Fan Mounts

That From 15.5 db could be a little worrying... but at my CPU idels @ approx 2GH with speed step it should be quiet most of the time.

setter - While you cannot tell us where you got them, are the new Sharkoon fans much more money than the standard, and how about noise compared to noctua ?
Theyre about 4 quid more than a standard silent eagle 2000, noise wise i cant compare them to a noctua fan, as when i had a noctua cooler i never used the fan that came with it. But they are extremely quiet, currently running at 600 rpm, theyre running so low at start up that i get a cpu fan not detected warning during post. Ive never had them up to full speed as my system is currently at stock, but having 2 of the standard silent eagle 2000 rpms in the rig as well (on a fan controller), i know theyll be a bit more audible at full speed.

Yep the yate loon D12SL-12's are pretty decent fans as well, have 3 here that i used to use as case fans alongside 2 arctic cooling 400-1500 rpm pwm fans on my TRUE black, only switched to the sharkoons as i needed more powerful fans to push my q6600 to 3.8ghz.

Thoguht i'd come back and post some results on my new fans.

the Good. my CPU is staying well below 80 degrees with the fans spinning at 1600rpm of a possible 1870 rpm.
on my old redwings (the slower 1k rpm ones) it was right on the edge of 80degrees during the benchmark

this probably means i could get another 150 to 200 MHz out of my chip with the new fans...

Also good is that when not running a bench mark - with speed step dropping me back down to 2GHz the fans beocme pretty silent.

the BAD. they are noisy when running fast. (to be expected and i think). most of their noise is wind noise as opposed to mechanical noise.

the slightly annoying, i think there is a high pitched whisle when they run slow. but my ears arn't that great so i can pin point where it's comming from. could annoy the hell out of a teenager but having slightly worn out ears i think i'll live with it. I'll not mention it to my house mate and see if he comments on it.

all in all. very happy with running all system fans based off the CPU temp and can clearly see when the CPU has sped them up or down.

(that might annoy people as the pitch of the fans changes all the times depending on what the machine is doing. if you're someone who can ignore a continous noise you might find this a bit much to bear.)

one last tip. on a biostar mobo don't forget to let the mobo initialise the CPU fan so it works out where the fan starts to spin and it's top RPM etc, otherwise it wont be tuned properly (like mine was on first boot... very disapointed, untill i twigged)
