Hi guys I'm dabbling with media streaming via my xbox360 upstairs and my ps3 downstairs, But I'm not having much luck. I can get the consoles to talk to the PC but transfer speeds on video files etc are rubbish causing constant buffering I think its down to the poxy Sky netgear router ? Am I right ?
If so what would you recommend to extend my range and boost performance.
Also I must add I am a total noob with gigabits and n networks and other letters I dont know what they mean :p

I just spent 150 euro today upgrading to wireless N the stuff about extra range is complete nonsense.

If I hard wire it to my N router it's fine but wireless it might as well me G/B it's complete toss unless my laptop is sitting on top of my router. I bought a wireless N PCIe adapter today as well.

Eventually I had to move my old router as an access point in the living room to get decent speeds from my laptop in the living room. So now I have got a 70€ D-link N router serving a 2004 Linksys G in my living room. I'm not happy and I've now wasted 3 hours. Either it's simply the D-link's range is abysmal (my living room is 10m/30 feet from router) it drops constantly and won't even run speedtest... plug in the G in the living room I get my usual 14Mb however if I hardwire my laptop to my D-link router using cable it's the business topping 26Mb on speedtest.

Someone may prove me wrong, but I wouldn't go below wire speed for this, I run my AC Ryan HD Mini on fastethernet, wireless was garbage for me, nothing less than fe would work and this includes trying to stream through my Xbox 360 in the lounge via my PC upstairs running WMC (before I got the Ryan).

With wirespeed you can stream bluray too!

Ner ner nerner ner

Oh, hang on!??? - Thats what I did ?

Bugger!

I got a Netgear 384DG when I went with the post office but the wireless was awful.

I splashed oput on a bigger more powerfull router that said "RangeMax" on it, and this turned out to be a DG834PN and its the same as the 834DG but a bit bigger, but its was just as bad, and here is teh clincher... I then went out only a few days later and splashed out on an "N" router and that was, or is a DGND3300.. Again NETGEAR!!! - when will I ever learn?

The result is that I have splashed out over £200 on routers that are absolutely no better than teh free one I got from the post office, and whats even more idiotic is that Im not using any of them.. Im back on my good old trusty Linksys WAG354G.

As for Range, they are all ****ty for me.

Perhaps the Linksys edges out in front maybe, but the sad fact is, that I have now just given up on wireless and I have a very long ethernet cable for when I have a laptop - and thats in the same room!!!!!
