Hello,

Could a file server be specced with the following requirements:

Core2Duo
Raid6
Removable hard drive caddies for hot swappability

Thanks.

Is it for a home setup ? if so Im not sure if you would need a core2duo just for a file server. If you can get your hands on some old parts ie P4 or P3 perhaps that should do it..

failing that try some cheap AMDs

There are SATA caddies available. Depends on how many hard drives and amount of storage also (type of case) a stacker is great as a file server, loads of 5.25" bays.

I would use a old machine, a spare 1ghz P3 will be fine for a server

im running a EPIA 1.2Ghz and works a treat so dont think you need anywhere near C2D i needed it to be small so made a ITX setup SFF case, itx board, Adaptec 6 port hw sata raid (mb has 2) 7x 500gb and 1x 80gb sata 2.5" for linux

How do you fit 8 hdd's in a SFF case?
