OK, heres the challenge, find a gaming mouse for someone who has never owned one and has no idea what to look for in one.

I don't even know if i need a gaming mouse, I play a lot of FPS's and my previous mice have never seemed great though so maybe there is something to the "£aming" tagline.

I think I should mention that I don't get on with typical mice, for years as a child my home PC had a tiny laptop mouse, not a full sized one. As such I've developed "the claw" grasp (base of the palm on the desk grasping the mouse with fingertips). This generally rules out bigger sized stuff.

Tl;Dr: What is the best mouse to be had for about £35 max which isnt too big and bulky.

Razors seem to be highly regarded and not too expensive for some models, what are like fellow claw grippers?

Cheers, the mx518 keeps getting mentioned in a positive light.

The OCZ is also interesting, I never knew they made mice...*off to google reviews*.

That microsoft is an example of the kind of mice that I can't seem to use due to my dodgy mouse style. It's made to be held in the palm and it's size reflects that, I find them hard to use with fingertips.

I'm a fellow clawgripper lol and I would recommend the Logitech G9... slightly pricier than the 35quid mark.

however, the G5 is also a lovely mouse

If your a claw gripper, then the cheaper Razer mice will suit you very well, especially the Diamondback or Copperhead as they are low profile. Fast, responsive, and a touch of colourful bling :D.

I been using a Diamondback Chameleon (Red LEDs) non-3G version for almost 4 years now and it is still working great as ever.

If its your first gaming mouse and dunno what you like, I would probably actually go for the explorer v3. It's a happy medium in shape and height and is an awesome mouse to boot.

Best fingertip mouse for gaming bar none is the original MS Wheel Mouse Optical 1.1* with the USB port tweaked to 500Hz. Other wise a lot of gamers swear by the MX518 tho I think thats partly because ESR gave it a perfect score rather than how good or not it might actually be.

Avoid laser mice as most of them are pretty rubbish for gaming.

* Althought it doesn't really have the DPI for resolutions above 1680x IMO unless your one of these people who drags the mouse 10+cm to pull a 180.

I like the Microsoft wired laster mouse 6000, though it isn't manufactured anymore.

The Razer Deathadder is also excellent if you can put up with an LED on the back of it.

Just make sure you go for a logitech or razer gaming mouse you really can't go wrong with any of their products, I myself have the razer lachesis bit expensive though

I did recommend the explorer v3 before as a first gaming mouse as it was in your budget but like others say if you want to go slightly over get anything by razer (especially the lachesis it rocks), sadly never tried a logitech myself as I don't like how bulky they are but everyone all raves about how good they are so you can't go wrong with either :) Again the microsoft is a sort of happy medium in size/performace.

Razer i have found generally are unreliable, had to diamondbacks die on me within 4 months, went for a logitech G5 and was flawless and gorgeous for 2 years! Wouldnt go for the G9 as its one ugly mofo! Only thing is if you have some high end mouse mats like Icemats then laser mice won't work as i found out.
