I posted one of these before, but decided against it. However, deff looking into off loading my laptop to fund a desktop build. £800 is the max I'll go.

Build needs to include everything except a mouse. After having a glossy screen, think I'll revert back to matte. Widescreen monitor preferred.

I seen a few nice pre-builts, but they come in above budget as they don't include a monitor.

This is the pre-built I was looking at: http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showp...=43&catid=1080&subcat=&name=Ultima Thunder GT Something along that line would be grand.

Use: Medium gaming/web browsing/use as a media center

I've heard good things about the 4870. I'm open to either Intel or ATI.

Do you need a operating system and speakers? Guessing you might not need speakers since you're using it as an HTPC, and not sure if you're using your current operating system on the new machine.

Fine for single GPU,
You could save some cash there and get GA P35 DS3L mobo, will save you about 30quid,
also not sure if you need those speakers there, and he posted mice+keyboard set as well.

And it's 750 also, so if you leave the speakers/mice+keyboard and get cheaper mobo you will be at about 680 total price :).

Loudness isn't an issue tbh. I use headphones practically all the time. 99% of my gaming is done online using Vent/TS.

Forgot about OS system  this is why I need you guys :D

Keyboard is required. Mouse is not. I have a Razor Copperhead.

Ok. Harder to meet the £800 mark than I thought. Seems harder and harder these days to squeeze a grand system into a slightly lower budget. Anyhow, I went 70 odd quid over. If you choose the lower 4850 gpu over the blisteringly quick 4870, you'll come in on budget i think. Also chose the 640gig Samsung over its 500gig sibling, the platters on the latter are faster.

im sorry i was over by £13, but i assumed you woudl want to upgrade in the future, more parts, so i increased the PSU :) hope that is okay?

That is very nice actually :D (I say this knowing nothing about mobo's though)

I can stretch £13 lol. I could go up to 1k no problems, but I wouldn't use it enough to warrant spending 1k so I figured £800 is a reasonable amount for a mid-range spec machine without being too silly. Was actually looking at a dual 8800gtx set-up a few months ago, but I figured that was a little overkill for my moderate gaming.
